PPPoE connection in Linux-general Linux technology-Linux technology and application information. For details, refer to the following section. (Author: Jianning) after a busy morning, I finally solved a problem that has always plagued me. How can I connect to the PPPoE connection provided by the dormitory under Linux.
The problem is as follows:
The connection in our dormitory is through PPPoE or VPN connection. We recommend that you use PPPoE connection because it is more stable. In Windows, there is no problem. Start-control panel-network connection-Add a new connection ...... It can be solved, and it has also been solved on Windows VISTA. But how to connect in Linux?
Download A rp-pppoe (you can install it directly using yum on fedora core 9). After running pppoe-setup, you can set the user name, password, and DSN server (automatically obtained) and so on. However, pppoe-connect cannot be connected. The PADO package is not accepted. I didn't have the patience to read the PPPoE protocol before, so I never solved it. It seems that I had to make a decision to connect to Intenet in any way this morning!
Let's take a look at the PPPoE protocol, and know that PPPoE has roughly gone through the following stages: PADI-PADO-PADR-PADS-SESSION-PADT. So where is my problem ?? By using pppoe-D ~ /. Log and check the log file. Generally, the PADO thin from the server is not received after the local machine sends the PADI package. Why?
I accidentally saw that my last package was a RECV to PADI package, which was probably widely broadcasted by others when surfing the Internet, after a glance, I found that someone else's package is more than 10 bytes larger than mine. After careful comparison, someone else's TAG domain has a poligon character. After careful searching on the internet, I found that this is the service-name Domain and Host-Uniq domain of the PPPoE package. However, I did not ask me to provide this information when setting rp-pppoe. Use man pppoe-man pppoe. conf and the analysis/sbin/pppoe-connect script, you will know to add the SERVICENAME = poligon and PPPOE_EXTRA-U parameters in the/etc/sysconfig/network-sripts/ifcfg-ppp0 file.
