Internet-connected half of China

By the end of 2012, the number of Internet users in China reached 564 million, with a total of 2.68 million sites nationwide. (Data Source: China Internet Network Information Center cnnic).

Inside and outside different

Submarine cable, synchronous satellite will China's network and the internet tightly linked, China's network export bandwidth of millions of trillion per second. However, many of the sites that can be accessed smoothly abroad are inaccessible in China, such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc. The German voice was unfortunately among them.

A wall officially never officially recognized

Data communications with websites that are not officially visible will be intercepted and blocked by a sophisticated system. Folk often call it the Great Firewall, abbreviated GFW, imitated from the English translation of the Great Wall of China to the great Wall. Accordingly, its Chinese name is also often called "Chinese firewall" or "fire wall" and so on. However, officials have never formally acknowledged the existence of the wall.

Foresight

September 20, 1987, China's first e-mail was born, by the Department of Electrical and Mechanical research personnel Wang Yunfeng sent to the University of Karlsruhe, Germany con professor (Werner Zorn). The message content is simple, only a short sentence, English and German bilingual (even include a spelling error). But today it is ironic: "Across the Great Wall, we reach every corner of the world." ”

Through the wall, there's surgery

The hard-working and intelligent Chinese people naturally have a way of coping. The classic wall-piercing technique is to use a proxy server. Users no longer have direct access to blocked outbound websites, but rather through proxy servers. Communication data is equivalent to a detour from the proxy server to achieve FQ effect.

Content Scanning Unpacking Inspection

The designer of the Great Firewall naturally knows this ancient wall-piercing technique. They also have a more advanced approach to blocking data traffic that deliberately bypassed the firewall. For example, the system will automatically retrieve all the communication content. Once a sensitive word is searched, the packet is intercepted immediately, causing the communication to be blocked and the access aborted.

Communication encryption Reject filtering

The so-called however persuasive, outsmart (or the magic of a foot, DAO Gao Zhang). Chinese netizens face harsh content filtering, and there are still other FQ means. They use various encryption methods to prevent the firewall from filtering the content of the communication. The more commonly used encryption FQ can be HTTPS, VPN, and so on. For the existing Great Firewall system, it is difficult to decrypt and filter encrypted data, which is too high.

A complete blockade is hard to achieve

Although firewalls can also be directed to block specific proxies or VPN servers, a complete blockade is hard to achieve. As long as China's network is still connected with the world, it can always find a FQ channel. Many FQ software intelligently and automatically search for such access, users do not need any professional skills to break through the blockade of the Great Firewall, such as the German voice recommended Psiphon.

How many walls are there in the world that need to be torn down?

This is a famous comic book from the Eastern Gallery of the Berlin ruins. With the March 2013, Burma lifted its blockade of Facebook, YouTube and other websites, leaving only 4 countries with no regular access to Facebook: China, Iran, Cuba, North Korea.
