Slow computer running

It may be that your background is running some service programs, or your computer may be infected with viruses. The solution can optimize your XP system and close some unused service programs, if it is not enabled along with the operating system, the system memory usage should be reduced. For specific solutions, refer to the following article. I have a new operating system (XP) with a memory usage of 200 or 300 mb. There is really no way to reinstall the operating system to solve the problem.

I. Windows XP Optimization

Restore windows classic interface
After installing Windows XP, many people feel that Windows has become very beautiful. It is a pity that the cost of beauty will consume the memory and memory that we are not rich. To restore the interface and usage habits similar to those of classic windows, right-click the desktop and select the "properties" command to enter the "Display Properties" setting window. There are five tabs: "theme", "desktop", "Screen Saver", "appearance", and "Settings. The tab of the current tab is highlighted in yellow. The default tab is "topic". Here we only need to select "Windows classic" from the "topic" drop-down menu ", you can immediately see the Display Effect in the preview window, and the content of the appearance tab is also changed.
Note: in Windows XP, the "theme" and "appearance" tabs are closely related. You only need to change any of the options, and the corresponding changes will be displayed on the other tab.

Restore the Start Menu
The new "start" menu of Windows XP is quite convenient and has little impact on system resources. If you like the classic menu in the past, right-click the blank area of the taskbar and choose "properties" to go to the "Taskbar and Start Menu properties" setting window, select the "[start] menu" tab and select "classic [start] menu" to restore it to its original appearance.

Optimize Visual Effects
The operating interface of Windows XP is indeed very nice. Behind it is the cost of consuming a large amount of memory. Compared with speed and beauty, we would rather choose the former, right-click "my computer" and click "properties/advanced". In the "performance" column, click "Settings/Visual Effects". All settings of the appearance are displayed, you can manually remove unnecessary features. Here, all the special visual effects, such as fade-in and fade-out, smooth scrolling, and sliding-on, are disabled, which saves us a lot of memory.

Disable redundant Service Components
Windows XP and Windows 2000 can be used as HTTP servers, email servers, and FTP servers. Therefore, many services are started whenever Windows XP is started, there are a lot of services that are useless to common users, so turning them off is a good choice. To disable unnecessary service components, right-click my computer and choose manage/service and application/service from the shortcut menu.
Note: Some services are required for Windows XP and will cause a system crash when it is disabled. Check the detailed instructions and then disable it.
Editor's note: for the 90 common services of Windows XP, this article will have a special chapter for analysis.

Reduce project loading at startup
Many applications are automatically added to the system startup group during installation. Each time the system is started, the system runs automatically. This not only prolongs the startup time, but also consumes a lot of system resources after the system starts! We can reduce the programs loaded during system startup by selecting "run" in the "Start" menu and entering "msconfig" to start "System Configuration Utility ", go to the "Start" tab. In this window, list the projects and sources loaded when the system starts. Check whether you need them to automatically load. Otherwise, clear the check boxes before the project, the fewer loaded projects, the faster the startup speed. This item must be restarted to take effect.

Disable System Restoration
The "System Restore" function is an important feature of Windows operating systems. When a problem occurs during windows running, restore the operating system. Although "System Restoration" is useful to people who often make mistakes, it puts your hard disk in a highly busy state and you will find that your hard disk is always busy, because Windows XP records the operation for future restoration. If you have confidence in yourself, do not use it because it can occupy a lot of memory.
To disable the system restoration function, click Start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system restoration. On the System Restoration page, click "System Restore Settings" to enter the "System Restore Settings" window and clear the "Disable System Restore on All Drives" check box. In this way, Windows XP deletes the Backup System Restore Point, to release the disk space it occupies.
In general, to ensure both system performance and system security, we recommend that you enable the system restoration function of the drive letter of Windows XP.

Disable Automatic update
"Automatic update" is a new feature launched by Windows XP to help users upgrade the system. This feature can be used when Microsoft releases system upgrade patches or system security patches, users are automatically reminded to upgrade their systems. However, this feature requires users to always be online. However, this requirement is not harsh for the "poor" who have a lack of iron and silver, therefore, we disable the "Automatic Upgrade" function and change it to "manual upgrade ".
To disable auto update, right-click my computer/properties/auto update and select disable auto update in the notification settings column. I will update the computer manually.

Disable Remote Desktop
This feature allows others to access your desktop on another machine. This function is useful in LAN. For example, if you have a problem, you can ask a colleague for help. Instead of getting to you, you can directly access your machine through remote desktop to help you solve the problem. However, for ordinary users who only have one computer, this function is redundant, So we turn it off to prevent it from wasting memory. Right-click "my computer" and select "properties/remote" to remove the "allow users to remotely connect to this computer" check box in "Remote Desktop.

Disable sleep
Windows XP sleep allows you to completely Save the current system status in the memory to the hard disk. When you start the system next time, the system does not need to be loaded or initialized, but directly go to the status when you were sleeping last time, so it starts very fast. However, it will occupy a lot of hard disk space (the same size as your memory). You can turn it off in "Control Panel/power options/sleep" to release the hard disk space, you can enable it when necessary. Click Start/control panel/power management/sleep to remove the check box before enabling sleep.

Disable the "auto send Error Report" Function
You must have such an experience in Windows XP. Once a program ends abnormally, the system automatically jumps out of a dialog box asking if you want to send an error to Microsoft, this is the "auto-send error" function in XP, which can send error messages to Microsoft's website. Although Microsoft has repeatedly vowed to provide powerful security protection without disclosing personal privacy, the information sent to Microsoft may contain the document information you are browsing or editing, this may include personal privacy or company secrets. Therefore, if you want to protect your rights, we should turn this function off without hesitation. Click Start/control panel/system/advanced, click Error Report, and select Disable Error Report ", the "notify me when a serious error occurs" below can be selected.

Disable "Internet time synchronization"
"Internet time synchronization" means that your computer clock is synchronized once a week with the Internet time server, so that your system time will be accurate, but this function is of little use to us, it may also cause a crash. Generally, you only need to synchronize time after installing Windows XP. So we need to turn it off. Click Start/control panel/date, time, language, and Region options, and then click date and time/Internet time ".

Set virtual memory properly
For virtual memory files, Windows XP Always sets a lot of hard disk space for the sake of security default value. In fact, we can set it to a smaller value. The method is to enter "Control Panel/system/advanced/performance/settings/advanced/virtual memory/Change" and go to the virtual memory settings window, first, determine the drive letter of your page file, and disable all the page files of other drive letters. We recommend that you set it to another partition, rather than the partition where the default system is located. This increases the page file read/write speed and facilitates the system to run quickly. According to Microsoft's suggestion, the page file should be set to 1.5 times the memory capacity, but if your memory is large, it also occupies a considerable amount of space, so, if the memory capacity is below 1.5 MB, set it to times. The maximum value is the same as the minimum value. If the memory capacity is above MB, it is feasible to set it to half of the memory capacity.

Delete unnecessary documents
Windows XP has many files that we seldom use at ordinary times. They are stored on hard disks, which wastes space and reduces system performance. We can delete these unused files. The files to be deleted include:
Help File: in the C: windowshelp directory.
Driver backup: Driver. cab file under the C: windowsdriver cachei386 directory.
System file backup: Generally, sfc.exe/purgecache is disabled.
Backup DLL file: in the C: windowssystem32dllcache directory.
Input Method: In the C: windowsime folder, you can directly Delete the three directories chtime, imjp8_1, and imkr6_1, which are traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Delete hidden components in Windows XP
After Windows XP is installed normally, many components will be automatically installed, many of which are not commonly used. installation in the system will occupy a lot of space and reduce system performance, you can use the following methods to delete unused components.
Use NotePad to modify the sysoc in the C: windowsinf directory. INF file, use the search/replace function, enter ", hide" in the search box (an English comma follows hide), and set "Replace with" to null. And select replace all. In this way, all ", hide" is removed, the disk is exited, and then click "Start/control panel/add or delete programs ", you can see many components that you cannot see at ordinary times. You can choose to delete them without a program.

Clear junk files
During normal use of Windows XP, junk files such as TMP, Bak, and old are generated. You can use the Windows Search function to find these files and delete them. In addition, by default, Windows XP records error events when the system fails and writes debugging information. We can discard these file information. You can click Start/control panel/system/advanced/start and fault recovery to clear and write events to log files ", select "NONE" in the "Write debugging information" drop-down box.

Disable startup of MSN with Windows
Every time you start Windows, messenger always runs automatically. Even if you don't want to start it, it runs automatically, which is very annoying. Can we disable it and prevent it from starting with windows? The answer is yes.
Method 1:
1. Click "run" in the "Start" menu, enter "msconfig" in the "open" box, and click "OK" to open the "System Configuration Utility" window.
2. Click the launch tab. In the launch project list, clear the check box before MSMSGS and click OK.
3. When the system prompts "restart the computer", click "yes.
Method 2:
1. Open the registry editor window.
2. expand the "key_current_usersoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionrun" branch, right-click "MSMSGS" in the right pane, and click the "delete" command in the shortcut menu. When the system prompts to confirm deletion, click "yes.
After setting, MSN will no longer start with Windows XP.

Bandwidth Optimization
Qosrrp (short for quality of service Resource Reservation Protocol) is added for Windows XP Professional Edition ). In general, when attempting to access information through available bandwidth, the application either uses the QoS application interface or another application interface called TCI. In network communication, a certain amount of bandwidth is reserved for managers for business security. This is undoubtedly a good thing for QoS applications, but generally users do not need this function, virtually some (20% by default) of the bandwidth is wasted, so I am here to cancel this function.
Select the "Start" menu and click "logout" to go To the logon main screen. In the logon main screen, press CTRL + ALT + DEL to display the logon window twice, enter "Administrator" in the user name (Note: size should be differentiated), enter the self-set password in the password column (if no password is set blank), and press "OK" to enter windows, click Start/run and enter gpedit. MSC enters the "Group Policy" window. In the left window, select "Computer Configuration/management template/Network/QoS packet scheduler ", double-click "restrict retainable bandwidth" in the window on the right, select "enabled", set "Bandwidth limit (%)" to 0, and click "Apply ", then, click "OK" and restart.
Note: Users of Windows XP Home edition do not have to change these settings.

Delete unnecessary Fonts
The more fonts installed in Windows XP, the more memory system resources will be occupied, slowing down the running speed of the system. Therefore, for infrequently used fonts, we 'd better delete it from the system. The font files are stored in the C: windowsfont directory. You can select some fonts as needed. Delete more unused fonts.

Speed up Shutdown
Windows XP boot speed is indeed much faster than the previous version of the operating system, but the shutdown speed is much slower. If you are concerned about the speed of shutdown, you can modify several registry key values to greatly reduce the time used for WINDOWS shutdown. Open the Registry Editor and find hkey_current_usercontrol paneldesktop. There is a key named hungapptimeout, and its default value is 5000. (if not, change it to 5000 ). Next, there is a waittokillapptimeout key, and its value is changed to 4000 (the default value is 2000 ). Finally, locate the registry at hkey_local_machinesystemcurrentcontrolsetcontrol. Similarly, change the value of waittokillservicetimeout to 4000. In addition, setting the NVIDIA driver help service in "control panel, administrative tools, and services" to manual can speed up WINDOWS shutdown.

The task is automatically ended when the computer is disabled.
When shutdown, an annoying dialog box is displayed to remind you whether a program is still running and whether to stop the task. In fact, you can make a few modifications to enable Windows to automatically end these programs that are still running. Open the hkey_current_usercontrol paneldesktop directory in the Registry and change the augoendtasks key value to 1.
Note: The autoendtasks key value may not be found. If so, create a string value and change it to this name. Set the value to 1.

Shut down Dr Watson.
Click Start/run, enter the drwtsn32 command, or start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system information/tools/Dr Watson ", call Dr Watson from the system. watson only retains the "dump all thread context" option. Otherwise, the hard disk will read for a long time and occupy a large amount of space in case of a program error. In this case, find the user. dmp file, which can save dozens of MB after deletion.

Reduce disk scan wait time
Although Windows XP is known as stable, it does not never stop, and occasionally gives you a blue face. After an illegal operation, the system will automatically scan for a large segment of e-text, it tells you that the system has ended abnormally. Now we need to check whether there is an error, but it will take some time to start. So we can type "CHKNTFS/T: 0" in DOS ", the waiting time is 0 seconds.

Delete unnecessary accounts
If your computer is only used by you, it is best to create only one account, because each account you create, there will be a folder named after your account under Documents and Settings under the installation directory of Windows XP, which contains some information about this account, there are favorites, documents, historical records, system settings, and other content. The space it occupies for a long time cannot be underestimated, the solution is to delete unnecessary accounts in "Start/control panel/User Account" as needed.

Enable the system to automatically stop the Response Program
Click Start/run, enter regedit, and the Registry Editor is displayed. Find [hkey_current_usercontrolpaneldesktop], select autoendtasks in the window on the right, right-click and select modify ", change the value to 1 (default value: 0 ).

Internet Explorer acceleration skills
Windows XP comes with Internet assumer6, and it has a small trick. After modification, it starts fast (on my computer, it just starts instantly ). Specifically, right-click the Internet Explorer shortcut icon (such as the IE icon in the shortcut menu on the taskbar ), open the icon property and add the "-nohome" parameter after the "target.

Ii. File Management and Operation Skills

Encrypted files and folders
Right-click any files or folders to be encrypted, select the "properties" command, and click the "General" tab, select "Advanced Encryption content to protect data" and click OK. It must be noted that the encryption operation of Windows XP is only for Disk Partitions In the NTFS format. It does not support encryption for partitions in the traditional fat16 and FAT32 formats. If you want to use encryption, you need to convert the disk to NTFS format.

Custom folder Image
In Windows XP, the folder image function is added, which provides more abundant image resources than the original icon content for users to choose from, you can use this function to set any image you like as a folder icon by right-clicking any folder in the resource manager and selecting the "properties" command, in the displayed dialog box, select the "Custom" tab, click the "select image" button to select a graphical file for the folder image, and click the "change icon" button to display the folder icon, click "OK". When you select to view the file in the "thumbnail" form in the resource manager, you will be able to see the folder image you have defined.

Fast File movement and copying
In resource manager, select the file you want to move or copy, right-click the file, drag the target folder, and release it. A menu is displayed, you can choose to copy, move, or create a shortcut, or even cancel.

2. Disable the XP spam Service

In the XP system, there are nearly 90 services and more than 30 services are enabled by default. In fact, we only need a few of them. Disable all unnecessary services to save you n more memory and a large amount of system resources. However, since Windows XP is installed by default, the system will enable many services, many of them are useless or temporarily unavailable to common users, but they waste a lot of memory and system resources, especially the memory, which affects the system startup and running speed. However, due to limited levels, I was afraid to shut down some services. So I found a lot of places and found a related article. I hope I could help some of my friends who are suffering the same as me with XP. modify.

In "start", enter:
