Software Installation Problems in Linux

How to install software in Linux-Linux Enterprise Application-Linux server application information. [I = s] This post was last edited by Mu Yixing

I used RHEL 5.4. After the system is installed, I want to install the rsync software through the tar package, but the system already has the rpm installation package.
First, run rpm-qa | grep rsync to check the system's current rsync installation. The result is displayed.
[Root @ localhost Server] # rpm-qa | grep rsync
Rsync-2.6.8-3.1

Run rpm-ql rsync to view the file path.
[Root @ localhost Server] # rpm-ql rsync
/Etc/xinetd. d/rsync
/Usr/bin/rsync
/Usr/share/doc/rsync-2.6.8
/Usr/share/doc/rsync-2.6.8/COPYING
/Usr/share/doc/rsync-2.6.8/README
/Usr/share/doc/rsync-2.6.8/tech_report.tex
/Usr/share/man/man1/rsync.1.gz
/Usr/share/man/man5/rsyncd.conf.5.gz

Finally, uninstall with rsync-e
[Root @ localhost Server] # rpm-e rsync-2.6.8-3.1.i386.rpm
Error: package rsync-2.6.8-3.1.i386.rpm is not installed

Finally, the result shows not installed. I don't quite understand what is going on. Why is it that I used rpm-qa to check whether it was installed, but an error is prompted when I unmount it: this package is not installed. What is the problem ???
