Steps for how to install the SQL Server 2000 basic components locally.

Install SQL Server 2000

To install the basic components of SQL Server 2000 locally

1. Insert the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 installation CD into your CD-ROM drive (if the disc is not running automatically, double-click the Autorun.exe file at the root of the disc), select the SQL Server 2000 component, and then choose to install the database server. Setup starts the SQL Server Setup Wizard. On the Welcome page, click Next.

2. In the Computer Name dialog box, the local computer is the default option, so the local computer name appears in the text box. Click Next.

3. In the Installation Options dialog box, click Create a new instance of SQL Server, or install client tools, and then click Next. Follow the software license Agreement-user information and instructions on the relevant page. In the Installation Definition dialog box, click Server and Client Tools, and then click Next.

4. In the Instance Name dialog box, if the Default check box is available, you can install either the default instance or the named instance. If the Default check box is unavailable, the default instance is already installed, so only named instances can be installed. • To install the default instance, select the Default check box, and then click Next.

• To install a named instance, uncheck the Default check box, type a new named instance in the instance Name box, and then click Next.

5. In the Setup Type dialog box, click Typical or Minimal, and then click Next.

6. In the Service Account dialog box, accept the default settings, type your domain password, and then click Next. In the Verify Mode dialog box, accept the default settings, and then click Next. When you are finished specifying all configuration options, click Next in the Start Copying Files dialog box.

7. In the Select License Mode dialog box, select according to your license agreement, and then click Continue to start the installation. In the Installation Success dialog box, click Yes, I want to restart my computer now, and then click Finish.
