The Word toolbar can also start the application

To open the Customize dialog box, click Customize under the Tools menu. Right-click on the Insert Hyperlink button on the Common toolbar, and in the menu that pops up, under assign hyperlinks, open the Assign Hyperlink dialog box, and through the Drop-down button on the right side of the look in range, Locate the Calculator program file CALC.EXE (usually in the C:windows directory), OK to exit, and close the Customize dialog box. When you need to call calculator later, click the Insert Hyperlink button on the toolbar to pop up a security alert dialog box without having to press the OK button to start the calculator program. For some other buttons, you can also make the appropriate settings as needed.

Note the following when you use assign hyperlinks:

1. After you assign a hyperlink to a button, clicking the button opens only the application that it links to, but does not have an effect on the Execution menu command or on the shortcut key. If you have done so, you can open the original Insert Hyperlink dialog box by pressing the CTRL+K key or by selecting hyperlink under Insert. Therefore, it is best to choose the buttons that are familiar with the shortcuts when you use them in practice.

2. To change or restore the original button function, you can open the Customize dialog box again, and then right-click the button, select the "open (or remove links)" Command under Assign hyperlinks, and reassign (or remove) the hyperlink to the button.

3. The assigned Hyperlink object can be an application, or it can be a folder or a specific file. If it is a folder, pressing the button quickly navigates to the folder, which is convenient for quickly opening the file, and if it is a specific file, the associated program is invoked to open the file.

4. For a specific picture that you often need to insert in your document, you can quickly insert a picture by performing the Insert Picture command under assign hyperlinks.
