This article describes how to use Linux, DOS, and Windows 95 operating systems on the same hard drive.
Use Lilo as the management selection program for startup.
This document assumes that you already know how to install Linux.
Details:
In the same hard drive, if DOS and Windows 95 are installed in different primary magnetic areas (primary
Prtition), and set both to boot at the same time, it will make Windows 95 and DOS feel "sleepy"
", And the system is abnormal, so you need to have a Boot Manager
As an option to start a job system and make it invisible to one of the job systems during execution
The magnetic zone where the operating system is located to solve the problem.
The main source of this "confusion" is that DOS and Windows 95 must be in the C (
A fat format primary prtition), so even if you install DOS on D: or other non-C:
When the primary magnetic area is started, the DOS still displays the zone as C:, which is caused by DOS.
For details about the design, see the Microsoft official document.
The only way to solve this problem is to use the boot management program.
Is the boot management program.
Steps:
1. use Linux fdisk to split up three primary magnetic partitions on your hard disk, and then install Win95 in its
In one primary magnetic area, install DOS in the other primary magnetic area, and then install Linux in the third magnetic area.
If you only have one primary disk in your hard disk, you can use the FIPS software to split your disk.
Does not damage your data, but the use of FIPS software requires a little skill, see
Linux installation steps.
FIPS is a free software, which can be found on various FTP sites related to Linux.
2. obtain the lilo.17.tar.gz or newer version from major FTP sites.
You have the ability to update the active flag at startup and install it on your system.
Note: If you are using Linux after '96 years, skip step 2 ..
3. in/etc, you can find the lilo. conf file and change its content as follows:
Boot =/dev/hda
Compact
Delay = 5 #5 seconds later, enter the Linux operating system.
Vga = normal # specify the common VGA text display mode (80X25)
Ramdisk = 0 # specify the ramdisk size, which is generally not required, so set 0
Root = current
Image =/vmlinuz.1.3.97 # specify the Linux Kernel file
Append = "aha1542 = 0x230 ro"
Label = linux # Name of the job system when Lilo is started
# Linux is used as the representative name.
Other =/dev/hda1 # specify the magnetic zone of other operating systems
Table =/dev/hda # indicates that the partition table is hard.
# The disk is/dev/hda.
Rewrite-table
Label = dos # Here DOS is used as
# Indicates the name.
Other =/dev/hda2
Table =/dev/hda
Rewrite-table
Label = w95
4. run/sbin/lilo to update the MBR data.
Usage:
When the LILO prompt appears, press TAB and enter the job system you want to use.
Taking my settings as an example, you can enter w95 to start Windows 95 and completely solve the above problem.
