Most of us who do it should be systems, network administrators, perhaps some of the basic knowledge of the computer room is not very understanding. The following is my personal experience of the two computer room construction failures:
The first one is about electricity. Before the company's room is a package to a so-called professional room construction company to do. The new room uses two-way power supply +ats system. ATS on behalf of the automatic conversion switch (Automatic Transfer switch), its function is mainly when the main power supply line problems, ATS will automatically convert the standby power lines for equipment power. The actual is to achieve the function of failover, the following figure. If it is you, how do you feel. Will there be any worries? We thought it sounded good at the time. But in the maintenance of a building, we found the problem: the building property disconnect the main power line for routine testing, according to the expected ATS will automatically make the standby line as the main power line. In fact, the ATS did do the same. But the problem is we found that some machines have been down. What exactly is the reason.

As you may have guessed, the ATS will have a delay in the automatic conversion. Although this delay is only a few ms, but enough to let some small devices lose power. Then how to solve it. Of course, add a UPS, the following figure. Although I have seen the ATS instructions before the 0MS seamless automatic conversion, but the fact is not so. It is strongly recommended that you use ATS more than a few tests, safety or installation of UPS, as long as can support to 3, 5 minutes on it, mainly in the ATS several MS delay in the power supply equipment. about how the correct selection of UPS is also very important, the Internet has a lot of information, here will not say more.

The second one is about air-conditioning. is another room, the approximate layout of the computer room as shown below. The left space is for future expansion. The right side has a row of cabinets, the arrow refers to the cabinet front direction. Air conditioning is an Emerson precision air-conditioning, is installed in the corner of the engine room. Do you see any problems? If it is you, you think the air-conditioning should be installed somewhere.

Remember how the server's cooling system works. The following figure, the server will be working with the front of the cold air inhalation inside the server, and then from the server tail out and take away the internal heat of the server. Then come back and look at the picture, see what the problem is. The hot air from the rear of the server will soon meet the cold air coming out of the air-conditioner. The cold air will soon be heated by the atmosphere, which forces the air-conditioner to work continuously, and the compressor stops frequently. Not only shorten the working life of air-conditioning, but also waste valuable resources (voltage, condensate ...). )。

Where should we put the air conditioner in the right place? According to Emerson's air conditioning manual, the correct air conditioner should be located in the following figure. This cold air comes out later by the server from the front-end inhalation, smooth completion of the entire cooling process. In the air-conditioning installation also has a lot of attention, such as indoor and outdoor machine distance to less than 50 meters; when the copper pipe between the indoor and outdoor machine is more than 10 meters, it is necessary to add additional condensate, there is a special formula can be calculated to add the amount of the indoor and outdoor machine installation of the height of the range of difference and so on. There are a lot of detailed manuals online, interested friends can go and see.

A question about expansion, if you want to create a new row of cabinets, then the front of the new cabinet should be on which side. According to the server cooling system working principle. The new row of cabinets should be "face-to-face" with the previous row, as shown below. What will happen if the direction is reversed? The hot air from the last row of servers will be inhaled as a cooling cycle by the rear row of servers, and the results can be imagined.
