After the Debian Technical Committee selects systemd as the default init system used by Debian Jessie, Ubuntu, a downstream release version based on Debian, announced that it will switch to systemd immediately after the upstream release.
Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Ubuntu, said on his blog that although upstart is a project led by Canonical, Debian decided to choose systemd as a core member of the Debian family, ubuntu will support this decision and will require Ubuntu community members to effectively execute this decision.
