After I upgrade to Ubuntu 13.04, the first thing I need to do is install the new Cinnamon version! Therefore, if you use apt-get to install it directly, the latest version will not be installed! Therefore, you must add your own PPA to Cinnamon!

Cinnamon 1.8 screen lock screen

Therefore, if you have not installed the latest Cinnamon on Ubuntu for the first time, you should know that the PPA to be added is the first line below. Then, execute the following command lines 2 and 3, so that you can install the latest Cinnamon version. However, if you want to start using Cinnamon, you still need to log on first and select Cinnamon as the desktop management software!

Sudo add-apt-repository ppa: gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable

Sudo apt-get update

Sudo apt-get install cinnamon nemo

The above is how to install Cinnamon 13.04 on Ubuntu 1.8. However, I am a little confused if I write this article only, let's take a look at the differences between the new Cinnamon version! I have read the official introduction and my own experiences after using it as follows:

1. Screen Protection

When the screen is locked, the screen is changed to read and practical. The screen will display the time, and then the screen will show the big head. In addition, the screen will let people leave a message for you!

2. Nemo File Management Software

The interface of the Nemo file management software with Cinnamon is nice and its functions are improved. I am still the one built in Ubuntu. However, I tried Nemo and found that, in addition to the differences in appearance, functions and built-in Ubuntu do not seem to be much different.

3. Set

I remember that in the previous Cinnamon version, there will be a "Cinnamon Settings" menu item to go To the Cinnamon-related Settings screen. However, this version breaks them apart, directly go to "system settings". I think this is good or bad!

4. eaglets

Simply put, it is the Widgets on the desktop, which enables you to set up some gadgets on the desktop! The release Let should be managed through the release ETS project in system settings.

5. Integrated expansion management

This new feature is officially called "Spices Management" in Cinnamon. However, there should be many people like me! Yes, but I don't understand it! In fact, this "Spices Management" does not refer to specific features, but is a set method. In Cinnamon, users can add the producer let mentioned above on their own, there are also applets, Themes, Extensions and other things that allow users to customize their Cinnamon. However, in previous versions, these things must be downloaded on the official website of Cinnamon, in Cinnamon 1.8, users can directly download and install it from the set value screen. Therefore, it is easier to install and use the extended functions!

I used it for a few days. In fact, I don't feel much about the revision. However, the screen lock function of the new version really makes me feel nice and easy to use! Oh!
