Use ADSL to share the Internet without proxy

Sharing an ADSL Broadband line with multiple computers has become the hottest topic on BBS. Most of the methods are to use a host as a proxy, and other computers use this proxy to access the Internet. What if the host is not enabled? A simpler method is to use the ADSL Modem with the routing function. For specific implementation methods, see the following section.

Hardware preparation
First, let's take a look at my network environment. The ADSL bandwidth I use is provided by the local telecom (monthly subscription ). Using telephone lines, PPPoE virtual dial-up Internet access, Dynamic Allocation of IP addresses. The attached ADSL Modem is the GRT1500 with the NAT gateway routing function. Hardware required for networking: ADSL Modem, Hub, or small switch with routing function (the number of ports is subject to the need for networked computers), one cross network cable, and several parallel network cables (note: the crossover network cable is made of 568B at one end, and 568A at the other end. The parallel network cable is both made of 568B) and each computer network card.

  Step 1: hardware connection

Use a crossover network cable to connect the lanport of ADSL Modom to the UpLink port of the Hub. Of course, you must first connect the telephone Line to the Line port of Modom. Connect other ports of the Hub to the network card of each computer through a parallel network cable (1 ). Don't take it back!

Step 2: Set the computer Nic

Because the default IP address of GRT1500 is 192.168.1.1, we must first set the computer and ADSL Modom to the same network segment; otherwise, communication will fail. The procedure is as follows (taking Windows 98 as an example, the settings for other systems are similar ). Right-click the "Network Neighbor" icon on the desktop, select "properties", double-click the TCP/IP protocol corresponding to the NIC in the displayed dialog box, and fill in the following content in the displayed dialog box:

The IP address is 192.168.1.2 (do not enter 192.168.1.1 because it is occupied by Modem. 3)

The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.

The gateway is 192.168.1.1.

The preferred DNS is 202.101.107.55.

Note: DNS may vary across regions. Please consult the local telecommunications department. When you set DNS, you need to enter the server name. If you want to enter the name, you need to enter it, as shown in figure 2.

   Step 3: Modify GRT1500

The next operation is to modify GRT1500, Which is risky (similar to changing the motherboard BIOS). Therefore, we recommend that you find a host with high stability. Open IE, enter 192.168.1.1 in the address bar, and press enter to display 4 images. In the "username" and "password" columns, enter root and 12345 respectively (if there is any error, please refer to the manual or contact the supplier), and click "OK", as shown in Figure 5 after logon.

Step 4: Enable the GRT1500 DHCP Function

Skip this step if you have set all the settings in this article! Click "DHCP Settings" in Figure 5. If you want to enable the GRT1500 DHCP function, select the "Activate" option in the figure, fill in the relevant parameters, and then click "Apply ", set the network card of your computer to automatically get the address. If you want to assign a fixed address, you do not need to change any configuration.

Note: The gateway must be the LAN address of GET1500, and it is recommended that you enter the IP address of the local DNS.

Step 5: Configure PPPoE and PPPoA

The configuration of PPPoE and PPPoA is exactly the same. The specific access method depends on the specific situation. Note that: the user name, password, VPI, VCI, and authentication method are all provided by the ISP. Any error may result in unsuccessful dialing. The procedure is as follows:

1. Click "WAN Settings" in figure 5, and 6 images are displayed. Enter 8 in the "VPI" box, and 35 in "VCI" (8/35 for network management) 7.

2. click the "PPPoE (activate NAT)" option and fill in the account and password provided by the broadband provider in the box after the user name and password. For example, the user name (Quanzhou, Fujian) is 8163816 @ ads, l The password is 8163816.

3. Select "direct" (monthly subscription billing method) and "auto" (based on the actual Internet time or data traffic) based on the actual situation ). The "idle time (min)" is specified (the default value is 5 seconds, indicating that if no data passes through the ADSL line within 5 seconds, it will be automatically disconnected, it is automatically restored when you start to transmit data ). You can set it according to your actual situation. Select the CHAP, PAP, MSCHAPV1, and MSCHAPV2 verification protocols, which are generally provided by the ISP. Click "Modify" to complete the modification. For telecom users, the default setting is acceptable.

4. This step saves the changes to GRT15000. Click "Save & start" in Figure 5 and click "Save" in the displayed page (8. Restart the computer, disable the ADSL Modem, and then enable it. In this way, you have completed the modification to GRT15000. Open IE and try to access the Internet without dialing or installing PPPoE.

5. if you accidentally set an error or want to restore it to the default Modem configuration, click "Remove & restart" in Figure 5 and click "Erase" on the page that appears (9 ", restart the instance.

  Step 6: Configure other clients

The setting methods for other clients in the network are the same as those for the first client:

IP: 192.168.1.x (x is 3-255, because both 1 and 2 are occupied)

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Preferred DNS: 202.101.107.55

If the client has other connection methods before, delete them all. To allow computers in the network to access each other, the setting method is no different from that of a common LAN.

The four computers in my unit were shared in this way. During this period, the network connection was very stable and there was never any disconnection. However, the disadvantage is that you cannot control the Internet access time and permissions of clients on the network.
