The usage of the tape drive in linux, sco, and netware-Linux Enterprise Application-Linux server application information. The following is a detailed description. To back up and install a tape drive in Linux, netware, and sco unix, you must use the driver that comes with the operating system.

(1) in linux: in linux, DAT tape drives are generally identified as/dev/st0. You can use the tapeware backup software for backup, or use the backup software provided by some versions of linux, or shell scripts written by commands such as tar and cpio.

The installation directory of Tapeware is located in/usr/local/tapeware of linux. Run the following command: # twxadmin or twadmin. The former command is used in the X-windows graphic interface, the latter is the startup command on the Character interface.

(2) Use in the netware operating system: You can use the tapeware backup software for backup. After the installation is complete, start the command Twadmin or Twagent. You can also use netware's sbackup and sbcon to back up a tape drive of DAT24/40.

(3) sco unix: in sco UNIX systems, DAT tape drives are generally recognized as/dev/rct0.

Suppose you want to add a tape drive to SCO Openserver:

1. At the # shell command prompt, run the following command:

1. mkdev tape

2. After you press enter, the following information is displayed: Type "1" and press Enter.

3. Remove a SCSI Tape Drive

4. Remove an Enhanced IDE Tape Drive

5. Change default SCSI Tape Drive

6. View Current SCSI and Enhance IDE Tape Drive configuration

4. Select "1" and press Enter. The screen will be displayed:

Enter the prefix of the SCSI host adapter that supports

This device or press For the default: 'dpti'

Enter h for a list of host adapter or enter q to quit:

The default Interface Card type is "dpti". Enter h to display the Help menu. Dpti is the driver of the Adaptec raid card. We assume that you use the drive to connect the drive to the independent channel of the raid card, so you need to add the driver of the raid card, if you are connecting to another scsicard or SCSI controller, you only need to select the corresponding driver name. If not, you can use pkgadd or installpkg to add a SCSI driver under sco unix.

5. Press enter. Then, the screen will display:

Which 'dpti' SCSI host adapter supports this device?

Select 0-1, or enter q to quit:

Enter the interface card number. 0 indicates the first interface card in the system, and 1 indicates the second interface card. Select 0 and press Enter.

6. screen display:

What SCSI Bus is this device attached?

Press To use the default: 0

Select 0-n, or h for help, or q to quit:

To display the information, confirm the SCSI bus number connected to the tape drive and press enter 0.

7. screen display:

What is the Target ID for this device?

Select 0-15, or h for help, or q to quit:

Enter the scsi id of the DAT drive. The default ID of the drive is 3. Press enter.

8. The system will prompt you to enter the logical unit number of the tape drive:

What is the LUN of this device?

Press To use the default: 0

Select 0-7, or h for help, or q to quit:

Enter 0 and press Enter.

9. The system will prompt:

Update SCSI Configuration (y/n )?

10. Type y to display the screen:
The SCSI configuration file has been updated

Updating system configuration ......

System files have been successfully updated

Processing ing Tape Driver ..... (Srp)

This indicates that the SCSI configuration file is modified, the system file is also modified, and the tape driver is configured.

1. The system will prompt you to enter the seller's ID number:

Enter Vendor Identification string or press To use default

Press enter by default.

2. The system will prompt the SCSI version number. Press enter by default.

3. The system will prompt Response Data Format. Press enter by default.

4. The following screen shows a menu. Select the type of the tape drive to be configured and select 4 and "DAT drive ".

5. After you press enter, the system will require you to type the boot string of the drive, and type stp = ad (, 0) in the light ).

6. After you press enter, the screen will display the return configuration menu. Enter q, press enter, and then press q at the cursor.

7. The system will prompt you to reconnect to the core and Type y.

1. The installation is completed by default by y in the next two inquiries.

In the unixware operating system, edit the/etc/default/tar file, you will see that the system sets the default device name of the drive to/dev/rmt/c0s0 (different types of drive may be different ).

The Tape (rewind, rfm, eod, and other parameters) commands provided by the UUNIX system can be used to complete operations on the Tape drive.
