Use XChat to connect Freenode IRC in Ubuntu

Change the server bar to irc.freenode.net/6667.

Enter your nickname and username

Enter # Ubuntu-cn in the chat room

Enter the password of the user name you have registered.

/Nick new username

/Msg NickServ REGISTER your password

Many words have been set on XCHAT and PIDGIN in this method, but you can directly log on to Empathy.

Later, we found that the server address in Empathy is chat.freenode.net, and the port address is 7000 or 7070.
