User definition: a set of Permissions

User representation: UID, which is used by the system to identify users

Group: a set of permissions. The system recognizes the permissions by GID.

Group password: prevents users from joining a temporary group.

User and group ID ::

UID, GID: 0-65535 unsigned decimal number, some enterprise versions are 32-bit

The root ID is 0.

System users: 1-499. service users are not allowed to log on to the system.

Common users: 500-65534

Nobady: equivalent to a Windows Guest Account

Concept of group: divided into private groups and public groups. Any user must belong to a group,

Private Group: basic group for a single user

Public group: additional group (outside the basic group)

One user can join multiple groups.
