In Ubuntu, run the following command: sudo apt-get install xpad. Run the xpad command again to start the Xpad program. Xpad opens a record window by default. In the record window, right-click and you can use the menu to perform more options, such as modifying the font style and size, and resetting the window background and text color.

If you need to free up the desktop space after recording the notes, you can close the record window. Xpad does not exit. When you need to record it again, you can click the icon in the taskbar.
