Microsoft's next-generation server operating system Lonhorn and Microsoft's Windows Vista support only SQL Server SP2, according to an article in Microsoft's official website.

Microsoft says this is done to provide customers with more secure products. Earlier versions of SQL Server, including SQL Server 2000 (all versions, including Enterprise Edition, Desktop Edition, and so on), SQL Server 7.0, and SQL Server 6.5 are no longer supported.

Users of applications that use earlier versions of SQL Server, if they want to use the new operating system, start thinking about testing and upgrading to SQL Server 2005, which will take full advantage of the security features of future operating systems.
