Foreign media wrote today that Mozilla's latest Firefox OS Operating System has been favored by a large number of operators and they have high hopes for it, we hope it will break the dual-headed monopoly of Android and IOS. However, if you want to retain your partners, Mozilla still needs to work hard on the technology and continue to improve the functionality and experience of Firefox OS.

Dual-headed Monopoly

Mozilla launched the Firefox OS mobile operating system on Sunday and immediately received support from more than 10 mobile operators. The reason is not hard to understand. First, carriers favor any operating system that can reduce their reliance on Apple iOS and Android. Therefore, every time a new version of Windows or Blackberry is released, they are always optimistic. This situation has lasted for a long time.

Cesar Alierta, CEO of Telefonica, a Spanish operator, said at the Mozilla Press Conference: "double-headed monopoly is harmful to any industry ." Telefonica has put a heavy emphasis on Firefox OS. This year, it will release mobile phones using this operating system in multiple countries and cover all of its existing markets by the end of next year.

Franco bernabè, CEO of Telecom Italia, pointed out that even if the mobile operating system market already has products such as BlackBerry and Windows Phone, however, tizen for Firefox OS and Linux mobile still faces huge opportunities. "I think all these operating systems have room for development," he said in an interview during the Mozilla press conference. The dual-headed monopoly pattern is the least we want to see ."

Two major tools

In addition, Firefox has other advantages and is extremely attractive to mobile operators. First, the cost is low. Although Android is free of charge, Firefox OS can be well compatible with low-end hardware devices, and Android performance on these devices is very poor or even not supported at all.

Secondly, Firefox OS is an open platform. In view of this, operators can "do whatever they want", such as using their own applications and services and promoting their own brands. Banner believes that this gives Firefox OS and tizen a certain advantage in comparison with blackberry and Windows: "We believe that open-source platforms will be very popular ."

Despite this, Firefox OS still faces a huge challenge. To achieve the above-mentioned aspirations of operators, there is an important premise that Firefox OS must be truly functioning well. In the event of any major problems, development will suffer from major setbacks. A large number of companies once put down reinjection on HTML, including Facebook. But later, Facebook gradually moved away from HTML and focused on iOS and Android, building native applications around these two platforms.

Long road ahead

Analysts said that although Firefox OS has won support from many hardware vendors and operators, there is still a long way to go if you want to launch a really popular product. Tony Cripps, an analyst at market research firm Ovum, said: "For Firefox OS, its quality and user and developer experience will be a real test. Apparently, according to Mozilla's Firefox OS mobile phones, we found that they are slow and clumsy, and there is still a gap between mature products on the market ."

Crups also pointed out that even low-end smartphones, Firefox OS needs to be well compatible with them, and in this market, it will face fierce competition for Android phones, Nokia Asha series, Samsung Rex and other functional mobile phones.

Meanwhile, for Firefox OS, it may be more difficult to enter the U.S. market. Gary Kovacs, Mozilla CEO, said Mozilla will certainly open up local markets, but this is not the company's top priority. Mozilla also announced that it had established a partnership with sprint, but it did not provide details. Kovarchies said that the first Firefox OS mobile phone may not be available to the U.S. market until 2014.
