February 29 is destined to be an important day, because Windows 8 consumer preview and Windows Server 8 Beta are also in a global public Beta test, which is both important for both our technology and consumers. At the beginning of Windows 8, it was very hot, and the change was very big. I didn't pay much attention to Server 8 during the DPE test, it's really embarrassing to think about it now. Therefore, we downloaded two Server 8 Beta versions for testing in the early morning of June March 1:
- First version: Windows Server "8" Beta (x64)-DVD
- Version 2: Windows Server "8" Beta Virtual Machine (x64)
Let's take a look at the differences between the two versions. The first version is the traditional ISO version, which is used to burn the graphics files of the disc media, USB flash memory, and virtual machines. The second version is the VHD version, that is, the VM version is used for VM installation. Simply put, it can be called the Server 8 Beta master disk. You can directly create a VM and then create a differential disk and specify the VHD file as the parent disk. If it is necessary for the traditional version, I will also try this later. Next let's take a look at the entire installation process of the VHD version: first, we can start the VM after creating a differential disk, let's take a look at my VM configuration. below is the memory setting, which is a dynamic memory setting. at startup, the RAM is 512 MB, and the maximum available is 2048 MB, let's just mark it as 2 GB memory. Then there is the processor settings. My laptop T9400 processor is allocated with two virtual CPUs, with a total system resource of 50% and a weight of 100%. Check the disk settings. The VM uses the D: \ VM \ Windows Server 8 \ srv8.vhd file as the VM disk. the disk type is a different virtual hard disk, the figure in the lower-right corner shows its parent disk. The VHD file is obtained from Server 8 Beta download and decompress. It is a dynamic expansion virtual disk. Well, after the basic environment is introduced, we will start the installation. After the installation, the first interface we can see will be displayed. It can be found that it is completely different from the previous Windows Server and is very concise, it is a bubble fish pattern used in Windows 7 before, but it is pixel-like. It is similar to an 8-bit background image in Metro. After a moment, the words "Update Registry Settings" appear during installation, which is the same as that of our Server 08 R2 and Windows 7, but the speed is much faster. In the preparation phase, obtain the device information and install the driver for the device. This is what we call HAL, the hardware is unique. The entire installation process is from 1% to 100%, and the time is very short. Preparing the system means that our system installation is nearing completion. Prepare the computer, that is, clear the temporary files and delete the cache after installation. Now we start to set up the computer, and we can see that no matter whether it seems to accept the License or set up or the Server 8 interface has already changed the tradition, more like the tablet we use or Windows Phone 7, all of this benefits from the Metro UI. Next, we first accept the License, and then click Next. Set the country and region, time format, and keyboard. The first two items need to be set manually. The operation interface is similar to a tablet. The third item is automatically set according to the first two items. Set a password for the administrator. It is more friendly than the previous 08 R2. When you enter the password, move the mouse to the right side of the icon similar to a wireless signal, and press and hold the left mouse button to show the plaintext of the password. After the configuration is complete, the system restarts. After the restart, you can see the welcome page of Server 8. This date is very simple and concise, and I like it very much. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to display the logon interface and enter the password. The operation is smooth and concise. Because this is the first time you log on to the system, Server 8 creates a personal configuration file for us and starts related services. Personalized settings will be made on the desktop. Enter the system and wait for a moment to see the following interface. We can see that this is completely different from the previous Server 08 R2, and the entire interface is very simple, so that we can focus more on our business and needs, rather than how to set and operate. The installation experience is here, because the evaluation of Server 8 is not completed at half past one, except for the changes on the interface, there is also a change that means the start button is gone. If time permits, I will write down the evaluation and test the Server 8 Beta function later.
