Word2003 article at the beginning of a more vertical bar may be the article was set up for review, the solution is as follows:
Method 1
Click on the view → Mark (this time the mark should be selected, click to uncheck, if unchecked, ignore this method).
The vertical bar disappears.
Method 2
Click the right mouse button in the menu bar and select Review.
The Reviewing toolbar pops up.
