在部署DataGuard時，最簡單的情況是主/備節點配置完全相同的。但是，有時會碰巧會有在異構作業系統上進行部署的情況，以便於從異構平台之間進行資料移轉能有最小的停機時間或風險。為使用者通過配置異構的處理能力或硬體成本較低的備用系統，以減少在災備上的投資，這也是全理的方案。使用提供這種配置的說明資訊，以確定哪些平台組合能進行Data Guard的配置，以及任何額外的要求或限制是否在可能適用的範圍。

如果考慮使用一個異構的主/備DataGuard配置，Oracle建議使用者進行充分的測試，並確保DataGuard能夠實現switchover 或 failover的正常切換。

1.確定主備庫的 Platform ID

只要在被認證的每個伺服器上能運行Oracle的平台上，安裝了Oracle軟體是相同的，並且是相同的Oracle資料庫版本和補丁集，主伺服器和待命伺服器之間的差異總是支援。
所支援的這種差異的例子包括以下內容：

• Hardware manufacturer (e.g. Dell and Sun or Hitachi and EMC)
• Hardware configuration (e.g. number of CPUs, amount of RAM, storage configuration, etc)
  
• Processor (e.g. x86-64 AMD64 and x86-64 Intel 64; POWER4 and POWER5) 
  
• Operating system distribution (e.g. Red Hat Linux, SUSE Linux or Oracle Enterprise Linux)
• Operating system version (e.g. Windows 2000 and Windows XP)
