今天是Knuth的70壽辰

好像太八卦了一點，不過這是Knuth ，我的終極偶像啊。就算他沒有寫註定留名青史的The Art of Computer Programming(是滴，俺有空還在讀），就算他不是最早讓人們認識到演算法也可以定量嚴格分析（沒有演算法分析，哪裡有現代電腦科學囁？）的人，就算他沒有發明和改進LR解析方法，就算他不是最早獨立實現Algo編譯器的人，就算他不是程式設計語言經驗研究方法的奠基人，就算他沒有提出Attribute Grammar，只看他10年間寫出免費排版軟體TeX（讀Tek哈）和字型軟體METAFONT，單槍匹馬滅掉一個行業：科技出版物人肉排版，就足以讓人誠服。這種歐拉式的文藝複興男不是每個世紀都有的。

還是Lance Fortnow總結得好：Knuth的態度是I want to solve problem X and I'll use whatever math I need to solve it, even if I have to develop it myself.

Update: 看來洒家比較溫和。看看Mark C.C的暴力文字：If you don't know who Knuth is, then you're not a programmer. If you're a programmer and you don't know who Knuth is, well... I have no idea what rock you've been hiding under, but you should probably be fired.
