-- English Reading reference manual editing note

Since the first phone call with Mr. Ye in August 7, 2009, he has been talking with Mr. Ye several times over the past nine months. The 80-year-old scholar has been somewhat forgetful. His name and phone number are everywhere beside his home phone, desk, and wall, it is used to remind myself to communicate with me in a timely manner about the revision and publishing progress. I have forgotten many things such as daily drinking and living, but asked an aunt surnamed Liang to take care of them; but he clearly remembers the content in this English Reading reference manual-"at is a point ...... If you understand this, you don't have to memorize it ." (See the topic p43 in this book)

I remember ye said this repeatedly: "I just want to leave something really nice for my students ."

The predecessor of this book "Science and Technology English Reading manual" has sold more than 1.3 million books, but it almost disappeared in the last decade due to various reasons. Fortunately, Li xiaolai, who grew up to be an English education teacher and a consulting expert for studying abroad over the past 20 years, did not forget to sincerely recommend this book to allow him to return to the Chinese market, ze was a student. The editor is diligent in his studies and adds, deletes, and revises the book to become a collection of more than 30 books/edited books in his life.

But is this really a good thing?

I have been in the course environment of English major schools for 10 years since I was in middle school. I have read many English grammar books, and the style of books is similar, always starting with nouns and verbs, then there are various clauses and virtual tones. I always think that such reference books are not very suitable for English learners to read. When we encounter difficulties in reading English materials, how can we clearly tell whether the grammar points we should look up are omitted, conditions, and assumptions, or is it an adverbial clause? How many people will recite all the grammar points in order, waiting for a one-to-one correspondence with the actual scenarios? Such a book is a little high, and ignores the group that really needs help from the tool book.

I have also read many English-speaking books, most of which list several English phrases in a whole article, with English interpretations. Although they are complete in detail, they are still difficult-sometimes we will ask the teacher, why should we use out instead of off? Why should we use in instead of on? Most of them answer the questions, which are used to usage and fixed collocation. Just remember what is written in the book. But how can we remember so many matches? As a result, the single choice and fill in the blanks in the English examination paper will make us difficult every time.

However, ye Lao's English Reading Reference Manual is different. I have studied this book for no more than seven times during the compilation process, and I feel that this book has its unique characteristics and can bring the gospel to the majority of English learners:

When reading English materials, what should I do if I encounter a sentence that I cannot understand (if the word cannot be understood, please refer to the dictionary) and do not know which syntax it belongs? -- Simply pick out the common words in the sentence and check the corresponding directory of this book. For example, if there is ones in a sentence, go to the directory to check the topics related to one and ones usage (see p187); if there is either in the sentence, go to the directory to check either and either... Or usage topics (see p84 in this book )...... If you have read the usage of one and ones, either and either... If you want to learn more about the syntax of a pronoun, go to the grammar directory to query the topic related to the pronoun (refer to this book ).

What should I do if I encounter an eye-catching combination of memory English and I don't know how to distinguish the meaning of the combination of the same verb and different adverbs/prepositions? -- Go directly to the directory of this book and check out the topics related to commonly used adverbs/prepositions such as out, about, at, and over. In these topics, the commonly used English collocation will be listed by the different meanings of the adverbs/prepositions, and a large number of similar examples will be collected to enhance the association and memory, so that we can thoroughly understand and draw inferences from each other.

Therefore, I strongly agree with Mr. Li xiaolai's idea in the recommendation sequence: ye Lao's English Reading Reference Manual is like a detailed, clear, and easy-to-use map! Give readers some advice and help them solve their problems.

Now, this book will eventually be written. In a recent phone call, ye Lao Can Finally shout out my name without reminding me. I felt a lot at that moment:

I would like to thank Mr. Li xiaolai, who strongly recommended this book and contributed to the publication, for his trust in me. This gives me the opportunity to contact Mr. Ye and ask him for advice. I would like to thank Mr. Zhou and colleagues from the liberal arts team for their help in the compilation and molding process. I would like to thank Mr. Yang mengyu from Tianjin University and my alma mater, Zhang Xiaoying from the English College of Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Wang Zhenping for their support and encouragement. I would like to thank Cui dingyu, a ten-year-old friend from Tsinghua University, for participating in the review of this book. Of course, the most important thing is to thank ye Lao for his rigorous academic attitude throughout his life and his belief and persistence in benefiting Tao and Li, so that I can contribute to the "classic reproduction" of the story.
