Advanced use of the WPS Formula Editor

Science teachers often have headaches for test papers and many formulas in the courseware. Often fall into the infinite stitching method, using a text box to combine into a complex formula. In fact, WPS Office provides us with a powerful formula editor equation Editor, which can help us solve these problems.

1. Insert Formula

Place the cursor where you want to insert the formula, click on the menu bar "Insert" → "formula" or click the "Formula" button on the toolbar, and then bring up the Equation Editor formula editor, as shown in Figure 1.

You can use the manual input, and with the click of mathematical symbols to get the formula you need to save in the document. No longer dwell on this.

2. Size change

When we use the formula editor, we often use the default setting, that is, the formula's font size is immutable. If the text font size changes, such as the use of third words as a title, we need to zoom by image, more trouble.

In fact, the formula editor provides settings for changing the dimensions. You can change the size of the output formula by opening the Formula Editor menu bar dimensions → definition, as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2 The Size Settings dialog box

The default is "standard" for "12 points", where the point is the size of the Latin text, which is the Arabic numeral in the WPS size setting, and the Chinese font number "fifth" is equivalent to "10.5 lbs". That's why the formulas we insert when we use them tend to hold up the main body spacing--the body and the size of the formula are inconsistent.

So we need to change the formula font size according to the body font size when we use the formula. Because the formula font size is all West character number, its corresponding relation with Chinese font size should refer to "http://zh.wikipedia.org/zh-cn/font size" obtained. At the same time, "subscript" and so on and "standard" of the size of the ratio is more complex, the following provide some common size settings:

You can also see from Figure 3 that the formula size "10.5 points" is just right when the body size is "number Fifth".

3. Font Change

Sometimes we need to annotate some Chinese or some Western words in the formula. However, the default formula editor is XXFarEastFont-Arial, and Western language is automatically tilted for all situations. This requires another function of the formula Editor--"style".

As Figure 4, open the menu bar "style" → "definition", you can adjust to change the text in the formula font.

Figure 4 "Style" Settings dialog box

For example, "Full-width text" (that is, the Chinese characters) to the bold, then we entered the Chinese characters have become bold.

Sometimes because of special meaning, you need to remove some of the western characters in the formula, such as the physical units can not use italic, you need to select the character, click "Style" → "text" to restore Roman, as shown in Figure 5.

4, the formula alignment

When using the Equation Editor, sometimes we want a formula with a large difference in length to be aligned with a position in the formula (such as the equal sign), as shown in Figure 6.

Figure 6 Equation Alignment

There are two ways of doing this:

Use format: Select the appropriate alignment in the format of the menu bar, as shown in Figure 7, and the disadvantage is that it cannot be set autonomously.

2, use alignment notation: by clicking the alignment symbol in the interval and ellipsis button group on the toolbar, you can insert an alignment symbol (such as a triangle) at the cursor, and the alignment symbols for each row are automatically aligned, as shown in Figure 8.

5. The formula moves

When we enter a formula, we want to move the formula, and if we just drag by using the mouse, the formula is automatically embedded in the text paragraph that is dragged near the position and not at the specified location. This is due to the default picture format for the formula.

Right-click the selected formula to select the Format Objects option and select the Layout tab, as shown in Figure 9.

It is set in the same way as a normal picture:

The embedded type is used to implant the formula in the body, and the upper and lower types are used to make the formula independent, and the perimeter and the tight type are used to wrap the text around the formula (at which point the formula moves freely).

6. Paragraph alignment

Sometimes when our formula is inserted, its position deviates from the centerline of the body and moves up or down, as shown in Figure 7. This is what we need to align.

Figure 10 The formula deviates from the body centerline

We can get the formula back in order by setting the paragraph format for that text. Select the text, right-click the paragraph option, and select the line break and Paging tab, as shown in Figure 11.

The "text alignment" is exactly what we need to change. The alignment is listed in a total of 5 text alignment, because there are many reasons why the formula is not aligned, you need to use a different alignment, so the department needs to try on their own. As shown in Figure 9, that is, "text alignment" adjusted after the correction of the paragraph.

If you also need to change the formula to more advanced features such as color, you can use the upgrade version of the WPS Formula Editor MathType.
