Example one:

A foreign-funded enterprise has applied for ADSL access services, in order to achieve all office computer sharing ADSL Internet, the need to install a firewall. This example involves ADSL modems, routers (including firewall services) and hubs and other network hardware devices. The design of the networking scheme is shown in Figure 1.


First, the power of each hardware device is connected. Second, plug the phone line into the modem's line port, connecting the Ethernet port of the modem to the WAN port of the router with an Ethernet cable (not interleaved), and then Connect a router's LAN port (optionally one of the 4 interfaces provided) to the uplink port of the hub with an Ethernet line (not interleaved). Of course, you can also use a crossover Ethernet cable to connect the LAN port of the router to the common port of the hub. Finally, use the Ethernet line (not crossover) to connect the common port of the hub and the network card of the computer, note that if the uplink port of the hub is applied, the 1th normal port of the hub cannot be used at the same time. After connecting the lines, watch the router and hub LEDs to see if the network is connected correctly.

Next, the settings are started. The IP address of each computer is set to obtain automatically, the DNS address is also set to obtain automatically, the gateway is empty. Then, run the ipconfig command at a DOS prompt, and if you see an IP address such as 192.168.1.X, and the gateway is: 192.168.1.1, the router is working properly, open the browser, and enter in the Address bar: http:// 192.168.1.1, enter the router management interface, enter password login, in the setup option, set the Ppoe mode, and fill in the ADSL dial-up username and password, after storage, restart the router, in the Information option, click the Connect button, soon, You will find that you have dial-up access to the Internet, and other computers can also be online. Firewall settings can refer to the manual, but also relatively simple.

Example two:

A new unit is set up, ready to use ADSL to share the Internet, so in the network when the requirements to minimize costs, to this end, we do not choose hardware routers, but the use of a staff usually working PC, installed Wingate software to achieve the function of hardware router. It also chooses the network hardware such as the ADSL modem of the star and Lenovo's hub, and designs the following networking scheme for it. See Figure 2.



The key of this network is the setting of Wingate Software, Wingate is a multi protocol proxy server system software with firewall function. Wingate can provide Internet-accessible shared services to users on a local area network through a single computer. Multiprotocol means that Wingate supports almost all Internet protocols, such as HTTP, FTP, POP3, and VDO (video), RealAudio (audio), etc., where users can browse the home page, send and receive messages, transfer files, enjoy video and audio without restrictions, There is no difference between using a single network account with each user.

Installing Wingate server-side software

The Wingate software has Windows 9x and Windows NT two versions, which are illustrated in Windows 98.

(1) In the LAN configuration network card, add TCP/IP on the network card with the left mouse click Network Neighbors.

Clicking on the properties, opening the Protocol window, will see the TCP/IP protocol in the component, which typically has a dial-up adapter or adds a network adapter, which depends on which type of Internet connection is used. Click the "Add" button to select the protocol and click "Add" to select Microsoft in the left window and select the TCP/IP point "Confirm" key on the right side to close the previous window point "confirm" to restart Windows.

(2) Tumbling to find our newly added TCP/IP protocol, configure the internal network card according to the following steps:

(3) Install the Wingate software on this machine, have a prompt during the installation process, select "Server" item. The machine needs to be restarted after the installation is complete.

Installing the Wingate Client

(1) Configure the network card inside the LAN. Right-click your network neighbor.

Click on the properties, open the Protocol window, you will see the TCP/IP protocol in the component, in this window generally have a dial-up adapter or another network card, which mainly depends on which type of Internet connection is adopted.

Click the "Add" button, select the agreement item, then click "Add" in the left window to select Microsoft, and on the right select the TCP/IP point "confirm" to close the previous window point "Confirm" key to restart Windows

(2) Configure TCP/IP on the workstation.

Configure workstations to automatically/dynamically obtain IP addresses using DHCP:

Left-click the network neighbor;

Click on the Properties button;

Locate the TCP/IP component for the NIC and select it;

Click the attribute key to click on the "IP Address" label;

Select automatically obtain IP address;

Click the "WINS Configuration" tab;

Select "Disable WINS Resolution";

Click on the "DNS Configuration" tab, where you need to know if the DNS of the Wingate machine is "off" or "started".

If the DNS on the Wingate machine is Enabled, follow these steps:

Select the "Disable DNS" button;

Click "Confirm" to reboot the machine and enter step 4th.

If the DNS on the Wingate machine is "Disable", follow these steps:

Select the "Enable DNS" button;

Enter the hostname, which cannot be duplicate in the local area network. A simple name, such as "computer2", can be used as the host name.

Leave blank in the Domain Name field, enter the IP address of the ISP's DNS server in the DNS server search order, and the ISP will provide you with the address, if you don't know, you can ask them.

The domain suffix search order is blank, click OK-you will need to reboot the machine-Enter step 4th.

(3) Install Wingate Internet client program. and installed on the Wingate machine is a file, you can put this file on the disk can also be installed from the network. Select "Client" installation where prompted. Once this installation is complete, the machine will need to be reset.

(4) Test TCP/IP

To run Ping 192.168.0.1, the result should be:
