Open ruler

First, make sure the ruler is turned on, and if not, view > ruler (ctrl/cmd+r)

Set up and adjust guides

After you open the ruler, you can start setting up guides. You can set vertical or horizontal guides by simply dragging the vertical ruler or horizontal ruler and releasing it.

When using any tool, you can set the guides without restrictions. It is worth mentioning that the Move tool (V) can further drag the guide and reset the position.

Some shortcut keys when dragging guides

· Alt Key (mac:option): You can change the horizontal guide line to a vertical guide, or you can change the vertical guide to a horizontal guide line

Shift key: You can align guides according to the scale of the ruler, and if you want to change the ruler's units, right-click the ruler to set it.

Hide/show, clear and lock guides

Hidden display: (ctrl+h), or view > Show > Guides clear:to Remove your guidelines completely, choose

Clear: Try > Clear Guides

Lock: View > Lock guides. , note that you can still create a new guide

A case used by a reference line

Now let's use a real case to illustrate the benefits of the reference line. For example, the common three-column layout, between the text and the edge of the page need to leave a little white space.

In the same way, you need to keep the white area between columns and columns. In short, we want this text layout finally.

　　Create a new file : Enter some text, such as Lorem Ipsum.

　　Set Basic guides : Before you start, set up some of the most basic guides (the top of the canvas, the bottom, the left, the right), and then set two vertical guides (33.33% and 66.66%),

The results are as follows.

　　Create a white space : Now you need to create a little white space between the columns. Using the rectangular tool (Shift+u), draw the shape where you want to set the white space,

I use magenta, so it's easier to identify.

Now select the Move tool.

Drag the rectangle so that it snaps to the leftmost base guide, and once it is automatically aligned, a new guide snaps to the right side of the rectangle-the same way on the right side. This leaves the left and right side to create a white space.

Then drag the rectangle to the 33.33% guide line, let the 33.33% guides reside in the middle of the rectangle, and then create a new two guide--66.66% guides. (as shown in the following figure)

Rotate the rectangle so that it's horizontally

Then set the horizontal guide (horizontal guide only needs top, bottom)

Here I gave the color of the area, magenta for the text section of the three column, blue-green for the left-white part

　　Align the following:

Font tool, select the text layer, and when you hover the pointer over the text, you will find the black arrow, and then move the text to the first column (automatically cut), and then press ENTER.

Then double-click the text layer. Click the anchor point in the lower-right corner of the text, and then drag to the lower-right corner of the reference line's mating. So the first column is finished and the other two columns are the same.
