Application structure of Oracle Database
Application structure of Oracle Database
With the development of network technology, Oracle databases have been widely used in various fields. The application system structure based on Oracle databases mainly includes the customer/Server structure, Terminal/Server structure, Browser/Server structure, and distributed database system structure.
1. Customer/Server structure
The Client/Server (C/S) structure is a two-layer structure, as shown in Figure 2-2. In the C/S structure, you need to install applications on the front-end client and access the backend database server through a network connection. The user information input, logical processing, and result return are all completed on the client. The backend database server receives and executes the client's database operation requests.
The advantage of the C/S structure is that clients and servers can adopt different software and hardware systems. The advantage of this architecture is that applications and services are separated, with high security and fast execution speed; the disadvantage is that maintenance and upgrade are inconvenient.
2. Terminal/Server structure
The terminal/Server structure is similar to the Client/Server structure. Unlike the customer/Server structure, all software installation, configuration, operation, communication, and data storage are completed on the server. The terminal is only used as the input and output devices, directly run the application on the server without processing capability. The terminal transmits the mouse and keyboard input to the server for centralized processing, and the server returns the information processing result to the terminal.
The advantage of the Terminal/Server structure is that it facilitates centralized management, high system security, low network load, and low requirements on terminal devices. The disadvantage is that it has high requirements on server performance.
3. Browser/Server structure
The Browser/Server (B/S) structure is a three-layer structure, as shown in Figure 2-3. In the B/S structure, the client only needs to install a browser without installing specific applications. The Web server layer in the middle is a bridge connecting the front-end client to the back-end database server, all data computing and application logic processing are implemented at this layer. The user enters the request in the browser and transmits it to the Web server for processing. If necessary, the Web server interacts with the database server and then returns the processing result to the user.
The advantage of the B/S structure is that the Web server processes application logic, which facilitates application maintenance and upgrade. By increasing the number of Web servers, you can increase the number of clients supported. Its disadvantage is that it increases network connections, reduces execution efficiency, and reduces system security.
4. Distributed Database System Structure
Database systems can be divided into centralized databases and distributed databases based on different data distribution methods. A centralized database is a collection of databases distributed on the computer network, each database has its own processing capability. It can execute local applications or perform global applications over the network, as shown in Figure 2-4.
Figure 2-4 Distributed Database System Structure
The distributed database system has the following features:
Data is distributed in different databases on the computer network. These databases are physically independent from each other, but logically centralized.
Data can be shared. A database user can access both a local database and a remote database.
Good compatibility. The software and hardware platforms of scattered database servers can be different.
The Network has good scalability and can achieve the interconnection of heterogeneous networks.
