1 Introduction

For embedded development, the most commonly used tool for debugging the Development Board is the serial port and network port. This article mainly introduces how to install and set the serial port software (minicom and Kermit) to connect to the mini2440 Development Board in Ubuntu. This document assumes that you have installed Ubuntu on your computer.
Generally, no serial port interface is configured on the motherboard for most laptops. We can purchase USB port-to-serial interface on the Internet. There are many types of USB port-to-serial interfaces on the Internet. You can choose a suitable one based on the price. Here we use a USB adapter based on the pl2303 chip.
2 connect to the mini2440 Development Board

After plugging the USB serial port adapter into the Development Board and computer, run the dmesg command on the terminal to check that the USB port has been recognized by the PC, as shown in:

 


We can see that the serial port device we connect to is ttyusb0. You can run the LS-l command.
/Dev/ttyusb * to view related information. So far, we have successfully connected the serial port to the Ubuntu system. By the way, I use USB in windows.

3. Install and set minicom

By default, the mini-com software is not installed in Ubuntu, so we need to install mini-com first. You can use the apt-GET command to install mini-com, as shown in:


After the installation is complete, run the minicom-s command to perform some initial configuration, as shown below:

 
 
As shown in the parameter settings, you must set the hardware Flow Control to none. At first, the serial port cannot be connected because this item is not set.

Save setup as DFL and exit. Enter The minicom command again. You can see that the mini2440 Development Board has been successfully connected, as shown in.

Now, we have installed minicom and configured it successfully. You can use minicom. The following section describes how to install and use Kermit.

4. Installation and Use of Kermit

Minicom is the most commonly used serial port software, but it is not very stable. Therefore, we do not recommend minicom in uboot official documents, but Kermit (Here we use
Ckermit version). This section describes how to use Kermit. Kermit is not installed on Ubuntu by default. We can use sudo apt-Get
Install ckermit to install Kermit, as shown in:

After Kermit is installed, you need to set Kermit before using Kermit. VI/etc/Kermit/kermrc, add the following configuration options:

Now we have successfully configured the Kermit. On the terminal, enter the Kermit command to go To the KermitProgramAnd then enter connect to the serial port, as shown in:

In this way, we have successfully connected to the mini2440 development board. If you need to switch back to Kermit, press Ctrl +/, and then press C to jump back.
