Third, design a table in Design view

To design a table in Chinese Access2000 like the Chinese visual FoxPro 6 using the Table Designer, you need to work through Design view, as described in the following steps.


Step one, click the New button in the employee hours and Wages Database window, as shown in Figure 12. Then select the Design view item in the list of the New Table dialog box, shown in Figure 13, and click the OK button.

After that, the form that is known as "Table 1" appears on the screen, as shown in Figure 14. In this form, you can define the fields in the new table as you would use the Table Designer in Chinese visual FoxPro 6, as well as the field types, and you can also make a short description for each field. The information box at the bottom right of the form also allows you to read a variety of action-related tips.


In step two, after you enter the field name in the Field Name column, click the data Type column.


Thereafter, Access2000 automatically sets this field to the default data type: Text, which is displayed in this column. To set it to a different type, just click the bar and let a Drop-down button appear, and you can choose to specify a new data type by entering the Drop-down menu shown in Figure 17. Next you can set the "Customer unit", "unit Address", "Business Project", "Contact telephone", "contract Amount", and other fields.

In Access2000, the maximum length of a field name can be up to 64 characters, or a space can be used, and the data types provided are listed in the following table.

Action, the corresponding property is set when you enter a value in a cell above table Design view. Notes, hyperlinks, and OLE object fields cannot be indexed. If you want to calculate a large number of data that contains 1 to 4 decimal places in a field, you need a currency (Currency) data type. The single and double precision (double) data type fields require floating-point operations. The Currency data type uses a faster fixed-point calculation.


Note: If you need to change the data type of a field after you enter data in a table, the wait time will be longer when you save the table due to a large amount of data conversion processing. If the data type in the field conflicts with the changed DataType property setting, some of the data may be lost.

Step three, click the Decimal Places Drop-down button, and select the number of decimal places from the Drop-down list.

Set the contract amount to the Currency data type, move the cursor to the General tab below, and after you go to the format bar, the Drop-down button appears, as shown in Figure 16. By the way, in this tab you can control the properties of the current field, and those in the top list cannot complete the setup operation, which can be done here.


Note: This operation using the Pull-down button can also be used elsewhere in the Chinese Access2000.


Step four, click the Save button in the toolbar, or click the Close button on the view to close it.


The Close button is located in the upper-right corner of the table view form, the same as other Windows applications. When you click it, a new datasheet is created. Next, the Query dialog box, shown in Figure 17, will be displayed on the screen. After you click the Yes button that it provides, you can also specify the name of the new table in the Save As dialog box shown in Figure 18, which is given the name "Customer and contract amount."


Note: If you open the Help assistant for Chinese Access 2000, the following two dialog boxes will be provided by it. The Help assistant can instantly help you with your actions online, using the Help Pull-down menu to control whether or not to have the Help assistant displayed. Although the Help assistant provides good help for operating Office 2000, this book recommends that you do not use it, because it always displays some action on the screen, interferes with the operation of the line of sight, and then uses it later.

Step Five, click the Yes button in the dialog box shown in Figure 19.


After that, the new datasheet is saved by the name you specified, and it is also displayed in the employee hours and wages Database window. To rename a table that already exists, you can select it in the form, then right-click, and then select Rename from the shortcut menu to do so as you are already familiar with.
