For Telnet, its startup, shutdown, and settings are not very simple, but complicated. The Telnet terminal configuration process is also changed for different situations and related environments. Here we will introduce the specific steps.

Application to: Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista

You can use the following procedure to configure the terminal type simulated by the Telnet client.

The default WindowsTelnet terminal type is ANSI. Other valid terminal types include VT52, VT100, and VTNT.

Any user account can complete this process.

Perform the following steps:

Display current Telnet terminal type

Change the Telnet terminal type

To display the current Telnet terminal type

On the Telnet client, switch to the command mode. See switch between session mode and command mode.

At the Microsoft Telnet> command prompt, type d, and then press Enter.

The output text is similar to the following:

The preferred terminal type is type

To change the Telnet terminal type

On the Telnet client, switch to the command mode. See switch between session mode and command mode.

At the Microsoft Telnet> command prompt, Type set termtype and press Enter. Type to be one of the following: vt100, vt52, ansi, or vtnt.

The output is selected by displaying your settings.
