For security reasons, it is not allowed to ping from outside on Windows Server 2008, and if you want to configure permission to be ping through previous setup steps, you will find that you cannot find ICMP related configuration items from Windows Firewall. The operation of this rule must now be configured through advanced secure Windows Firewall. The steps are as follows:
Open Advanced Security Windows Firewall in Administrative tools;
Navigate to inbound rules in the left navigation form, and then locate the file and print sharing (Echo request –icmpv4-in) rule in the inbound rule with the profile type public, set to allow.
Note: We can choose which network environment (domain, private, or public) to allow this rule as needed, and allow icmpv6-in rules if the network uses IPV6.
In addition, we can also execute the rule of inbound Ping by command-line to enable or disable the command line as follows:
netsh firewall set icmpsetting 8
netsh firewall set icmpsetting 8 disable
