Connect to a MySQL database
Before you can access and process data in a database, you must create a connection to the database.
In PHP, this task is done through the mysql_connect () function.
Grammar
Mysql_connect (Servername,username,password);
Note: Although there are other parameters, the most important parameters are listed above. Please visit the PHP MySQL reference manual provided by W3school for more details.
Example
In the following example, we store a connection in the script for later use in a variable ($con). If the connection fails, the "Die" section is executed:
<? = mysql_connect ("localhost","Peter"," abc123 " ); if (! $con) {die (" . mysql_error ()); } // some code?>
Close Connection
<? = mysql_connect ("localhost","Peter"," abc123 " ); if (! $con) {die (" . mysql_error ()); } // some code mysql_close ($con);? >
