Document Section--word 2007 book Typesetting Complete Manual (eight)

When you create a new document, WORD2007 considers the entire document a section. To facilitate formatting of documents, especially long documents, you can split the document into sections and format each section differently, depending on your needs. Sections can be as small as one paragraph, up to the entire document. The section break is labeled with a two horizontal dashed line in normal view. Word2007 stores the text margin, paper type, orientation, and all formatting information for the current section in a section break.

For book documents, cover pages can generally be used as a section, title page and preface as a section (not numbering), table of Contents pages as a section, the body content according to the needs can be divided into one or more sections (if the text has a landscape page must be a separate section), so that the different settings for page numbers.

1. Inserting and deleting section breaks

The procedure for inserting a section break is to click where you want to insert the section break. On the Page Layout Ribbon page Setup Options section, click the Separator button, select an option under section break in the list, insert a section break, and then the section starts at the beginning of the next section, as shown in Figure 26. However, under Page view, the default state is to see no section breaks, and you can switch to view under normal view. The meaning of the various section breaks is as follows:

Next page: Insert a section break and page, new section starts on next page; continuous: Inserts a section break, the new section starts on the same page; Odd page: Inserts a section break, the new section starts with the next odd-numbered page; even pages: Inserts a section break, and the new section starts with the next even page.

The action to delete a section break is to first click the Show All button (the black double-headed arrow) on the toolbar, displays the section mark, then selects the section break that you want to delete, or you can switch to the section break under Normal view, and click the Delete key to remove it. When you delete a section break, you also delete the section formatting of the previous text in the section break. Note that the text will become part of the next section and take the format of the next section.

If you want to change the type of section breaks in a document, you can switch to normal view to see the type of section break, select a section break, press the DELETE key to remove the section break, and then reinsert the section break you want. In Page view, you can click the Show All button on the toolbar to display the section break and modify it.

2. Page Setup after the section

You can use different section characters for sections, which represent the beginning of the next section at the end of the previous section. You can click a section or select multiple sections, and then change the paper size. After the section, you can set up pages that apply only to the sections as needed. Because Word automatically treats the entire document as a section before the section is divided, the page settings in the document apply to the entire document. When you set a page for a section, be aware that the "this section" option in the Apply to Drop-down list is selected.

3. Section Set page number

The document after the section can have a different page number format for each of the sections, and you can renumber the page numbers for each section. The specific step is to move the cursor to the section where you want to add the page number, click the page numbering option in the Header and Footer option area of the Insert Ribbon, select Format Page number in the Drop-down list, and the dialog box appears, as shown in Figure 27.

Select a number format in the numbering format Drop-down list. If you select the Continue before section check box, you can follow the order of the page numbers in the previous section, and you cannot select this check box if you want to renumber. Then select the Start Page Number radio button and enter the starting page number in the spinner that follows. Finally, click the OK button.

Place the insertion point in the next section, setting the page number in the same way until the page number of all sections is set.

4. Use fields to insert page numbers

For Word documents, not only can you insert page numbers in headers and footers, you can also insert the current page number of the document, the total pages of the document in any place, such as "page x Total x page" to give the reader a clear overview of the pages of the whole book. To do this, you use the word "domain" and you need to insert two page number information.

First position the insertion point where you inserted the page number (such as the footer), and then open the Fields dialog box by clicking Field in the Text Options section of the Insert Ribbon. Select the numbering option in the category Drop-down list. In the Field Name list box, select Page. You can automatically insert sequential page numbers by clicking the OK button.

Locate the insertion point again, open the Field dialog box, select the Document Information option in the Category Drop-down list, select the NUMPAGES option in the field Name list, and click OK to insert the total number of pages in the document.

The rest of the characters are simple to form. Position the insertion point to precede the sequential page number, enter the "first" word, and use the arrow keys to let the insertion point follow the page number, and enter the "pages" character. Let the insertion point reach the front of the total number of pages and enter a "total" word, enter the word "page" after the total number of pages, and double-click the body area to return to the edit state after the setting is complete. In addition, this feature can also be implemented using the AutoText feature. Visible flexibility to use the "domain" function can solve the problem of inserting complex page numbers.
