KDE Desktop System
The KDE Desktop System was launched in October 1996 and subsequently gained rapid development. The KDE Desktop system has the following features:
◆ Environment configuration can be fully realized through the graphical user interface.
◆ A safer garbage bin for deleting files is provided on the desktop.
◆ Use the mouse to install other file systems, such as CD-ROM.
◆ Use a menu to control the scrolling, Font, color, and size of the terminal window.
◆ Achieve transparent network access. The file management program KFM provided by KDE can also be used as a WWW browser. You can view the content of the FTP site like the files on your hard disk, and open and store remote files.
◆ The Drag-and-Drop operation of the mouse is fully supported. You can Drag the file icon to the corresponding text processing program window to view the content. Remote files can be automatically downloaded.
◆ Provides a Help file browser (HelpView), which not only allows you to browse traditional user manuals, but also standard HTML documents.
◆ Provides a set of application and context-related help documents.
◆ The provided Session Manager can record the usage of the KDE Desktop System to ensure that the next access environment is consistent with the previous departure time.
The typical KDE Desktop Interface 3 is shown. The middle part of the screen is called the desktop, which contains many icons, such as "My Computer", "Network Neighbor", "Browser", and "recycle bin. A bar located at the bottom of the screen is called a panel, which can be used to start an application or switch over a virtual desktop.

KDE Desktop Components
KDE uses Kwm (K Window Manager) as the Window Manager. In fact, KDE supports almost all Window managers. However, only in Kwm can we maximize its performance and characteristics. Kwm determines the appearance and style of the KDE Desktop.
