Example of using peek and silentcast to create gif in Linux

Two tools: peek (I am using ubuntu 16.04) and silentcast.

Installation:

$ Wget https://github.com/phw/peek/releases/download/v0.7.2/peek-0.7.2-Linux.deb
$ Sudo apt install libsdl1.2debian ffmpeg libavdevice-ffmpeg56
$ Sudo dpkg-I peek-0.7.2-Linux.deb

Silentcast (with peek, I will not use it)

Making gif is an important part of our teaching.

We already have convenient software for mac, and many tools for Linux.

Silentcast is a good one.

Installation:

$ Sudo apt-add-repository-y ppa: webupd8team/y-ppa-manager
$ Sudo apt-get update
$ Sudo apt-get install bash libav-tools imagemagick x11-xserver-utils xdotool wininfo wmctrl python-gobject python-cairo xdg-utils yad
