1. Data Center Overview

The construction of the data center cabling system should be based on the world's first comprehensive Data Center Telecommunications Foundation standard, released in April 2005, tia/eia-942 Data center standards. The introduction of this standard provides the requirements and guidelines for the design and construction of large/small data centers.

2. Data center spatial structure

The TIA/EIA-942 Data Center standard regards the data center as a building, or part of a building, with the main function of accommodating a computer room and its maintenance area. The computer room is an important part of the data room, and the core data processing equipment is placed. Typical data center telecommunications spaces include: entry sites (ENTRANCE room), main distribution (MDA), horizontal distributions (HDA), regional distributions (ZDA), device distributions (EDA).

The following figure is a basic data center and a data center structure that considers redundancy.

Access Room (ER)

Main wiring Area (MDA)

MDA is the core of the entire data center and also the central distribution point of the data center structured cabling system, and the total distribution area is equipped with core Ethernet switches and routers, core storage Area network (SAN) switching devices, PBX devices, network management devices, and access devices. The total wiring area also includes a primary cross-connect (MC), which is used to establish a connection between the backbone cable and the core switch and the router, or a horizontal cross-connect (HC) device that connects to the nearest device wiring area (EDA).

Horizontal wiring Area (had)

Similar to the floor-to-ceiling telecommunications defined in tia/eia-568b, it consists of horizontally jumping and installing LAN, SAN switches, and KVM connected to EDA area devices.

According to the ita/eia-942 standard, MDA and had require a separate wiring rack or cabinet for fiber and copper to achieve high performance, high density, and high management requirements. A horizontal wiring area (HDA) generally can be connected to the number of devices within 2000.

Regional wiring Area (ZDA)

Equipment wiring Area (EDA)

EDA is a space allocated to end devices, which can include computers and communication devices, switches and blade servers or servers and peripherals. Horizontal cabling on the EDA side, usually using a rack/rack-mount wiring frame for termination. The standard recommended EDA zone at least two exits, for some applications (such as wireless access points, IP cameras and automatic control systems, etc.) consider the cable to be planned and connected to this end. At the same time in EDA, the rack and cabinet should be configured according to the Hot Channel/cold channel.

Telecom Room (TR)

The data center may also include a telecommunications room located outside the computer room to support horizontal cabling in other spaces, and for security reasons, telecommunications should be deployed outside the computer, such as staff offices, business centers, electrical and mechanical rooms, and other data center spaces outside the computer room.

The data center's horizontal and backbone cabling are all in a star topology, the horizontal cable can be connected to HDA or directly to the MDA, considering the system redundancy, located in the same Zda or EDA different ports, respectively, can be laying horizontal cable to different hda;

The backbone cabling adopts a one-stage star topology, and each HDA's horizontal jump is directly connected with the main jump of MDA, and no intermediate jump is allowed;

A redundant alternate distribution area is allowed in the data center structure, in which case the hda-mda,hda-alternate distributions have backbone cabling.

In order to achieve sufficient redundancy, the standard allows direct connection between HDA in the horizontal distribution, which is a direct-to-star structure used to support conventional wiring distances exceeding the application's required distance. To avoid exceeding the maximum circuit limit requirements, direct wiring is allowed between HDA and the standby entry site.
