In the role of bridging, similar to the physical host virtual as a switch, all the bridge settings of the virtual machine connected to the switch on an interface, the physical host is also plugged in the switch, so all the bridge network card and Nic are switched mode, mutual access without interference. in bridging mode, the virtual machine IP address needs to be in the same network segment as the host, and if networking is required, the gateway and DNS need to be consistent with the host NIC.

As for whether the bridge to the host's wireless network card or cable network card depends on the host Internet mode.
The most important feature in bridging mode is that the network features of the virtual machine are almost identical to the host except IP.

NAT (network address translation)

In a NAT network, the VMnet8 Virtual Switch is used, and the VMware networkadapter VMnet8 virtual network card on the host is connected to the VMNET8 switch to communicate with the virtual machine, but VMware The network Adapter VMNET8 virtual network card is used only for communication with VMNET8 Virtual Switch segments and does not provide routing capabilities for VMNET8 segments, and virtual machines under virtual NAT networks are Internet connections using virtual NAT servers The .

At this time, the virtual machine and host can achieve mutual visits, if the host has been connected to the Internet, then the virtual machine can be connected to the Internet. The VMware network Adapter VMnet8 Virtual network card is here only to provide an interface for virtual machine communication under the Host and NAT virtual networks . So, even if you uninstall the virtual network card, the virtual machine is still able to surf the internet, but the host can no longer access the VMNET8 network segment only. In NAT mode, the host needs to turn on the VMware NAT service and VMware DHCP service. The biggest advantage of using NAT mode is that virtual system access to the Internet is very simple, you do not need to do any other configuration, only the host machine can access the Internet. NAT mode is recommended if you want to use VMware to install a new virtual system with direct access to the Internet without any manual configuration in the virtual system.

Host-only (host only)

Host-only mode is actually NAT mode to remove the virtual NAT device, and then use the Vmwarenetwork Adapter VMnet1 virtual network card to connect VMnet1 Virtual Switch to communicate with the virtual machine, Host-only mode will be virtual The machine is separated from the outside network, making the virtual machine become a separate system, communicating with the host only . no Internet access .

Add:Virtual DHCP Server

When the virtual network card is connected to the VMNET1 or VMnet8 Virtual switch, the virtual DHCP server is automatically installed and connected to the virtual switch.

DHCP Server: (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, dynamically configured protocol), there are two main uses:

1. automatically assign an IP address to the internal network;
2. As a means of central management of all computers .

Virtual NAT Server

The virtual NAT server is automatically installed and connected to this virtual switch only when the virtual network card is connected to the VMnet8 (NAT) Virtual switch.

NAT server: A server that provides NAT functionality for network address translation, which translates IP addresses used in the internal network into IP addresses used in the external network, and converts non-routable IP addresses to routable An IP address that is hidden inside the intranet for external networks.
