Gentoo installation error in VMWare & quot; cannot open root device sda3.... & am

 

This article only records the process of solving the problem... for your reference.

 

 

The cause is that the SCSI driver is missing.

 

 

 

The solution is as follows:

Step 1: Modify the SCSI driver type

 

VM-> Edit Settings-> SCSI controller 0-> change type, set to BusLogic

 

This setting is said to be because the 2.6 + kernel no longer supports LSI Logic

 

 

 

Step 2: Start With LiveCD and enter the compiling environment

Livecd/# mount/dev/sda3/mnt/gentoo

Livecd/# mount/dev/sda1/mnt/gentoo/boot

Livecd/# mount-t proc/mnt/gentoo/proc

Livecd/# chroot/mnt/gentoo/bin/bash

Livecd/# env-update & source/etc/profile

 

 

Step 3: Set Kernel Parameters

Device Drivers ---> SCSI device support ---> ** Turn off EVERYTHING under here besides what is shown below ** <*> SCSI disk support SCSI low-level drivers ---> <*> BusLogic SCSI support

 

Livecd linux # make menuconfig

Livecd linux # time make-j2

Livecd linux # make modules_install

Livecd linux # cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage/boot/kernel

 

 

Step 4: restart confirmation
