How do Windows Jump lists use

1. Jump List of three faces

A Windows 7 Jump List is not only displayed on the taskbar, but also has a jump List in the Start menu. Windows 8.1 continues the taskbar Jump List, while Windows 10 adds a more humane "home" Jump List.

The taskbar Jump List integrates both the Windows XP taskbar and the Quick Launch bar, and builds on this (enhanced functionality is shown later). When you open an application, document, folder, or Web page link on the taskbar, right click on the icon to display a list of items that are dynamically changing depending on the object, which is what we call a "Jump List." Through the Jump List, we can use the original half of the mouse clicks, easily completed in the application to complete the work (Figure 1).

In addition to the jump lists for separate programs or documents on the taskbar, in the Windows 7 Start menu, there is a "good place" to centralize the classification management of a jump List. Click on the Start menu and at the top of it we'll find that the most recently-manipulated item, whether it's an application or another item, appears with an expandable triangle icon, which you can click to show the group shortcut items associated with the application or project, and you can open the item by clicking on the link that you've already used; Or click on the main recommended function of the project to open the use of special features (Figure 2).

Tips: A new "Jump List"

In the Windows 10 operating system, in addition to the real sense of the hybrid System Start menu, and introduced a special "Start" menu, that is, "home" in the resource manager, which is actually another jump List of the entire resource, is a special "Jump List" (Figure 3). All of this is to provide greater convenience for users to use.

2. Jump List of two functions

The first effect of a jump List is to reduce the number of mouse operations. When we used to access documents, pictures, songs, or other data, we always had to open the software before opening the files. By jumping lists, you can directly access the documents, pictures, songs, and so on that you want, and you are one-step to perform specific tasks without starting the application first. For example, we copy a wonderful quote on the Internet, we hope to store it in a TXT document, when the text is copied, just right-click on the taskbar emeditor application icon, select "New and paste" command, you can achieve a step-by-step screen editing and collection.

Another effect of the Jump List is to reduce operational clutter. By jumping a list, the actions associated with an application, folder, or document are concentrated in one place, eliminating the traditional sense of finding a pairing in a heap of categories or types in order to find an association.

Small tip:

We can view the Jump List as a special miniature "start" menu. If the Start menu for Windows 7 or Windows 10 is the Start menu for the entire system. Then, a jump List of applications such as Word can be considered the Start menu for that application. A Jump List of a type of document can be seen as the Start menu for this type of document. Starting from here is more convenient than starting from the beginning.

3. Use a special "Start Menu"

The jump lists for each application are different. When you use paint for a period of time, you save the most recently used graphics file on the Jump List, and after you use Word for a period of time, you save the most recently used document on the Jump List. However, a jump List is not simply a simple document type association. If we are familiar with a program, in order to use it quickly, we need to drill down to the practical features in the flip list. We give two examples to illustrate.

Keep the journal file always in front

A "diary" file was created with Notepad, this file is what you use every day, if you put it on the desktop, easy to increase confusion or cause loss, rather than put the file in a safe place, instead of the Notepad icon fixed on the taskbar, and then the Jump List of "my diary. txt" Fixed at the top of the list so that when you write a diary later, you can just right-click the icon to open the journal.

Multiple locks frequented by websites

If we often go to a few sites, the usual way is to add a Web site collection to the browser or add a shortcut to the desktop. But the former need to open the browser first, the latter will increase the confusion of the desktop. In fact, we can fix multiple URLs together at the top of the list with the fixed function of the Jump List (Figure 6).

Tips: Pinning your favorite Folders

A jump List can not only pin applications, documents, and URLs, but also pin folders to them. If we are always working in a fixed four or five folder, we can pin them directly to the taskbar or to the explorer. Just right-click the folder onto the taskbar or the Explorer icon, and it will automatically be nailed to the Jump List on the taskbar or Explorer icon (Figure 7). You can then access these folders directly from here. Fixing the folder here rather than on the desktop is a good way to clean up your desktop.
