How to use Linux ftp Commands

FTP is the standard file transfer protocol of ARPANet. This network is the predecessor of today's Internet.

Syntax

Ftp [-dignv] [host name or IP address]

Parameters:

• -D displays the instruction execution process in detail to facilitate troubleshooting or analyzing program execution.
• -I disable the interactive mode and do not ask any questions.
• -G disables the extension feature of special characters for the local host file name.
• -N does not use automatic login.
• -V shows the command execution process.

Instance

For example, if you use an ftp command to anonymously log on to the ftp.kernel.org server, the service is the official server of the Linux kernel. You can use the following command:

Ftp ftp.kernel.org # initiate a link request
