Hyper-V: Adding functionality and creating a virtual machine

Hyper-V is a highly efficient virtualization management software provided by Microsoft, with Hyper-V components in the early Windows Server, Windows 8 is the first to integrate the enterprise with Hyper-V in a personal system, and the rapid development of virtualization technology is visible.

Hyper-V in personal use, one of the biggest roles is to use as a virtual machine. This technology is based on Windows Virtual PC, and unlike virtual machines, the software will directly use some physical devices such as CPUs without virtualization.

With Hyper-V functionality, there are certain requirements for systems and devices :

System requirements: Both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 8 can turn on Hyper-V functionality, but only 64-bit Windows 8 can create virtual machines, and 32-bit systems are not allowed to link to virtual machines only. Because the maximum memory supported by the 32-bit system is 4G, the virtual machine functionality is removed from the 32-bit system, even if the virtual machine function is turned on and the user experience is not very good.

Device requirements: Hyper-V requires a two-level address translation (SLAT) and supports virtualized CPUs (AMD-V or INTEL-VT).

Because Hyper-V is very powerful and content is very much, so here is just a simple introduction, from the addition of functions, the creation of virtual machines, network links and file interaction several aspects to simply dabble.

Adding Hyper-V features

In Control Panel, select programs:

Then click "Turn Windows features on or off":

The Windows Features dialog box will then pop up, slightly waiting to load the feature options:

Once loaded, locate the Hyper-V feature, tick it, and click OK:

Windows features are enabled for functionality:

After you add Hyper-V to your computer, you must restart to complete the process. Windows hypervisor and virtual machine Management Services can be started after a restart.

After rebooting, you can see the Hyper-V related tiles on the start screen:

Click Hyper-V Manager in the tile to see an introduction to Hyper-V:

Select the user name of the system under Hyper-V Manager to view the virtual machine and virtual machine snapshots that have been created.

Click "New" on the right to select "Virtual Machine" to start the new Virtual Machine wizard.

After reading the instructions for the Hyper-V virtual machine, click Next.

Make a name for the virtual machine and modify where the virtual machine is saved.

Allocates memory for the virtual machine. Note that the allocated memory size is moderate, the performance of the host is affected by the General Assembly, and the virtual machine experience is reduced too small. It is recommended to tick "Use dynamic memory for this virtual machine" to adjust memory based on the use of the virtual machine and the state of the host.

The network configuration is skipped here first and needs to be set up in other locations.

Create a virtual hard disk, or you can use an existing virtual disk. The VHDX format virtual disk is a dynamically expanding disk that is constantly expanding as the disk is used. You can specify a maximum value for the disk. In addition, the VHDX format disk supports larger storage space than the VHD format virtual disk, which is recommended for this format.

After you create the virtual hard disk, you can install the system, you can complete the installation process through the CD or ISO image, or you can select "Install the operating system later" and use the optical drive or disc image to install the operating system for a new computer when you start the virtual machine. It is important to note that the Hyper-V virtual machine does not support the physical USB interface, so the installation of the system cannot be done via a USB flash drive. (The installation process has a physical machine installed in the previous article Windows 8 content, you can refer to the process to complete the installation of the operating system, not to repeat here.) )

Finally, on the summary page, confirm that there is something else that needs to be changed and click "Finish".

Creating a virtual machine takes a certain amount of time, waiting for you to see the following interface:

After a while, you can see that virtual machine creation is complete, and the virtual machine that you just created appears under virtual machines.

Under the virtual machine shutdown state, click on "Settings" to select the settings. When the virtual machine is running, the virtual machines section of the settings content can only be viewed.
