In today's Internet age, the Internet has already penetrated into our lives. people and people communicate in different ways on the Internet. BBS is one of the products of communication in this age. Although the BBS with different characteristics on the network has almost covered all aspects of our life, but it does not necessarily meet individual requirements, why not set up a BBS of your own? I will give you an example of setting up a simple ASP Forum "dynamic network forum" on the Internet.

　I. Preparations before installation

1. Prepare IIS
Before installing the forum, you must first prepare IIS. Today's Windows installation disks generally contain IIS, select Internet Information Service (IIS) in the "Add/delete Windows Components" option under "Add/delete programs" in the control panel, after confirmation, follow the steps prompted by the system to complete the installation.

2. Download and decompress the Network Program
Download an internet mobile program installation package from the Internet official website. You do not need to download any other patch packages. After the download is complete, double-click the installer to install it in the specified directory. Here I will install it in "D: dvbbs" (figure 1 ).

You are advised to install your forum in a relatively free partition with sufficient space. As the number of users increases, the number of files in the forum and the occupied space also increases, if you put it in the default "C: Inetpub" of IIS, the system speed will be affected. Therefore, I do not recommend placing it in the directory of the system disk.

3. Configure IIS
On "my computer", right-click the menu and choose "manage" to go to the "Computer Management" Page. At the bottom of the page, find "Internet information service ". Open its tree structure, right-click to view "default website", and select "properties". Here, you can set all IIS properties for the Forum to be opened.
Step 1: on the "home directory" tab, locate the location of the Forum on the hard disk. As the author has already decompressed the forum to the "D: dvbbs" path and entered the above path after the "local path", other options are default (figure 2 ).

Step 2: Set the default file type on the Documents tab. Because the default homepage file of the Forum is ". asp, click "add" in the "enable default document" option to "index. asp is added to the default document, so that the index page of the Forum (index. asp) will become the default forum homepage (Figure 3 ).

　　 2. Visit the Forum

After completing the preceding settings, you can access your forum locally through the browser. The simplest way is to open IE and enter "http: // localhost/" or "http: // (IP address of your machine)/"to go to the Forum homepage. You can also enter "http: // 127.0.0.1/" (figure 4 ).

This IP address is actually the same as localhost, and it is also a special address reserved for testing the local network. If the preceding address cannot be entered, check whether "index. asp" is added when you configure IIS's "document" option or whether the dvbbs path is set correctly when "main directory" is set.

Now, you can log on to the Forum as an administrator using "username: admin, password: admin888" in the Forum description. Click the "manage" link at the top and enter the above password to go to the Management page. To ensure security, we recommend that you create a new user, and upgrade it to administrator permissions in the "add administrator | manage" option, and delete the default admin user or change a complicated password.

FAQ: although you can see the Forum homepage, it does not mean it can be used normally. When you set and log on using the preceding method, you may encounter an error where you cannot query the database, in this case, you can change the read and write permissions of the "data" folder containing database files in the Forum directory to solve this problem.

For Win2K/2003 systems: Right-click "data" and choose "folder properties"> "security" to add the user "Everyone ", click the "write" permission on the "Everyone" user (figure 5 ).

If the WinXP system does not have the "Security" tab when viewing properties, follow these steps: Tools> Folder Options, and click the "View" tab, remove the "applicable to simple file sharing (recommended)" hook in the following options. The other steps are the same as those in Win2K/2003 (figure 6 ).

　　3. Personalized Forum

Step 1: set basic attributes of the Forum

After logging on to the management interface, first go to "Basic settings" to set the relevant descriptions and links of the forum, etc. A forum that belongs to you is basically formed. In addition, the options include upload, post, and user registration restrictions. Here is the forum facade (figure 7 ).

Step 2: add relevant Layout

After the installation is complete, the Forum is still blank. Here we will use the "add layout (Category) | manage" option in "Forum Management" to add a forum, you only need to enter the Forum name, description, category, and other information in the Add menu, and then click "add Forum. To create or change a layout, click "manage". On this management page, you can make any changes to the layout and description of the Forum (figure 8 ).

Step 3: beautify the Forum

In "Export template | import", select "import" and click Next as prompted. The required style is already in "Import Forum template list, select the template you need and select "import" (figure 9 ).

Then you can find the template style you just installed in the Forum "style" option.
I believe that after reading the above instructions, it will not be difficult for the reader to build a forum on his own, but a series of work after the setup is more complicated. For example, you can change the dynamically assigned IP address to a domain name so that other friends can access it easily, insert plug-ins of various functions into the Forum, and integrate other functions, more efforts are needed to build a good forum.
