In Windows 8, how does one manually modify the default ost data file location in Outlook 2013?

Fault symptom:

Most of the time, the enterprise's Exchange server uses MAPI or the Exchange Server cache mode to communicate with the client's Outlook, then by default, the storage location of this piece is: documents and Settings/user name/Local Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/Outlook. With the passage of time, this file will continue to increase, occupying a lot of C partition disk space; however, when you use Outlook2013 to create an Email account, its data file (. ost files) are always stored in the default directory of drive C, which occupies the space of drive C. By default, the system enters Outlook and finds that the location of the. ost file in the settings option cannot be modified! In view of this, we provide a way to change the path of the data file, so as to free up the disk space of the C partition.

Solution:

1. Download the "Office custom tool (OCT)" Official Microsoft Download page:

You can select 32-bit or 64-bit based on your version. The following uses 64-bit as an example;

2. After the download is complete, run the 64bit unzip admintemplates_64bit.exe "command, and you will be prompted to choose to decompress the folder and find a folder to decompress it, such as temp;

3. go to the decompressed temp folder, enter the admx folder, copy the "outlk15.admx" file and the "zh-cn" folder to "C:/Windows/PolicyDefinitions". If your system disk is not C, modify your drive letter

 

 

 

4. Press WIN key + R and enter "gpedit. msc" to start the group policy. Modify the path as shown in the following figure!

 

 

5. Delete the original outlook account (pay attention to backing up data) and create a new account. The data file is already in your modified location.
