Introduction
In the previous article, I configured the runtime environment of Eclipse and briefly introduced the development of J2EE. Through the above introduction, the reader should understand that the actual development of mobile phone applications is the development of the j2_project. Although the environment has been configured in the previous article to support the development of J2EE, the installed Ecilpse is very convenient to use as a Java application IDE, however, it is far from enough to support the development of j2-based architecture. To this end, this article will install EclipseMe, a plug-in for Eclipse to develop the mobile phone application.
Getting EclipseMe plug-in
Currently, the latest version of eclipsemeis 0.5.5(eclipseme.feature_0.5.5_site.zip). You can log on to the SourceForge website.
Go to the SourceForge website and click Downloads.ProductDownload page, which contains all the EclipseMe plug-ins and source code of some versions. Click the downloaded eclipseme.feature_0.5.5_site.zip file. A download image list page is displayed, from which you can select an image site that is close to each other. However, the list is mostly in Europe and America, and the download speed is not very fast. The downloaded plug-in size is 4240KB.
Installation of EclipseMe plug-in
For EclipseMe 0.5.0 and earlier versions, you can download and decompress it directly to the plug-in folder under the Eclipse installation directory to conveniently install the plug-in. However, after version 0.5.5, the installation method of EclipseMe has changed significantly, and the plug-in cannot be successfully installed using the previous method. The Installation Process of the latest plug-in version EclipseMe is as follows:
First, go to the Eclipse interface and use the "Software Update" pop-up "under the" help "menu to find and install ...... The "installation/update" dialog box appears as follows:
After selecting "search for new feature components to be installed", go to the next installation page:
Start to include only "Eclipse.org Update site" in the "site to be included in the search" list. to install the downloaded plug-in to Eclipse, click "Create local site ...... "Button, which will pop up a browser window to specify the current decompression path of the EclipseMe package. Although Eclipse does not provide a special explanation for this, based on my experience, it is best to extract the EclipseMe compressed package to a folder with a path name that does not contain Chinese characters, such as "E: EclipsMe, otherwise, there may be some strange episodes during the installation process, which may impede the smooth installation process. After the preceding operations are completed successfully, a site project named "Current directory" is displayed in the site list. Select the current check box to expand the tree structure project. You can see that its subitem EclipseME is also selected (see ). In this case, you can proceed to the next step:

Click accept copyright agreement to go to the last page:
On this page, specify the path to which the Eclipse plug-in will be installed. You can click "add site" to select another path, but it is best to install it in the Eclipse installation directory, click OK. Then, the system will pop up the following interface to remind you that the software currently installed has not been digitally signed. This is mainly because the EclipseME plug-in package has not been digitally signed (400 US dollars/year is required to maintain the signature). Therefore, do not worry about this reminder. Click the Install button to install the program.
Then, the File Installation will start as the progress bar advances. After the installation is complete, the following dialog box is displayed, requesting the user to restart the workbench. Click "yes" to restart automatically.
Configure the EclipseMe plug-in
To check whether the EclipseMe plug-in is successfully installed, you can click the "Preferences" menu under the "window" menu after restarting Eclipse. The following Configuration window is displayed:
As long as you can see the j2's items in the left window, it indicates that the EclipseMe plug-in has been successfully installed. To make the newly installed EclipseMe plug-in work properly, you need to configure it. Expand the j2_project, select the Platform Components subitem, and display its detailed configuration in the right-side form. Right-click the Wireless Toolkits project and start the following window from the Add Wireless Toolkit menu:
Click "Browse" in the window. In the displayed browser dialog box, specify the path of the Wireless Toolkit that was previously installed. If the path is specified correctly and the Wireless Toolkit is correctly installed, EclipseMe automatically detects the version of the Wireless Toolkit installed in the directory and displays it below the editing box (for this example, the displayed version is "j2wireless Toolkit 2.1"). Otherwise, it indicates that the previously installed Wireless Toolkit has a problem and needs to be re-installed. After you click "finish", some features supported by the Wireless Toolkit are displayed in the configuration form on the right, as shown in. If you are developing a mobile phone for a specific device, you can repeat the preceding steps to add the Wireless Development kits of other vendors, such as the sonyErisson j2s SDK.
Summary
So far, the configuration of the EclipseME plug-in has been achieved. Although the installation of EclipseME 0.5.5 is more complex than that of earlier versions, however, users can still deeply understand the almost unlimited scalability brought by the most attractive plug-in architecture of Eclipse. With the successful installation and configuration of EclipseME, all preparations for the development of mobile apps are ready.
