Install Windows XP + solaris10 on hp3172 wide screen laptop (1)-Environment preparation

It took me more than a month to install the system. If you have the intention to repost it, please follow the instructions in the post and I will help you step on it.

Installation disk: Use said (Solaris automatically installs the DVD ). See Appendix 1

1, Data collection:

1. Hardware Device data

1) Name and hardware ID of the display, Nic, video card, sound card, keyboard, mouse, and other devices.

2) display resolution and refresh frequency.

How can we obtain this data? You can use the "System Information viewer" provided by windows ".

Start-> RUN ----> msinfo32.exe. The program interface is as follows:

All the information we need is provided here. As shown in, my network adapter has two. One of them:

In the value of the PNP device ID, we only focus on the first three fields:
PCI-device type. Indicates that this is a PCI device,
Ven-hardware class ID. Intel's Nic is 8086
Dev-hardware device number.
The parameters of my computer are as follows:
Network Card: pci8086, 1092.
Display resolution: 1280x800x60Hz dynamic sharing of M memory card: pci8086, 27a2 pci8086, 27a6 (I don't know why there are two graphics cards)
The sound card is somewhat special. View "sound device". The displayed device type is hdaudio, the hardware type is 14f1, and the device ID is 5047. This is its chip number. What we need is the Controller ID. As follows:
Intel 82801gbm ICH7-M-high definition Audio Controller
Device ID: 8086-27d8

You can also use third-party software to obtain hardware information. For example, Everest will obtain more detailed information.
2. IP configuration
Includes IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS, and proxy.
2. Hard Disk partitioning:
1. Specify the Solaris installation space
Run partitionmagic to divide the space above 8 GB. It depends on how you move it. I spent a lot of effort to make such a big place.
Here, I divide the space in the last section of the disk to install solaris10.
Partition status

Partition description:
Primary partition 1-drive C: 15 GB Windows XP operating system primary partition NTFS format
Primary partition 2-contains three logical partition D disks: (20 GB, NTFS format), edisk (15 GB, NTFS format), and f disk (3 GB, FAT32 format)
Primary partition 3-not formatted: 8 GB is used to install the Solaris 10 Operating System

2. Create a Solaris Partition
To install Solaris, you must have a Solaris fdisk partition on the disk. The Solaris partition flag is BF or 82.
Solaris provides the fdisk tool to format the disk. However, fdisk is specialized and not suitable for cainiao. We adopt a safer method: Use diskgen to directly change the partition flag.

Diskgen is a disk operation tool running on the DOS graphical interface. The hard disk version of maxdos contains the diskgen tool. (For details about maxdos, see Appendix 1)
After maxdos is installed in windows, restart and select maxdos from the Startup menu.
In this way, we enter dos.
Load the mouse driver first, and then run diskgen:

Select the partitions for which you want to install Solaris. On the menu bar, select "tool" to modify the partition parameter and change the "System flag" field to BF. Do not change any other information.

Press ESC to save and restart.

Now we can start to install Solaris 10. At this time, the Solaris installation disk can find its own partition.
