MySQL CONVERT) provides a way to CONVERT data between different character sets.
Syntax:
CONVERT (expr USING transcoding_name)
In MySQL, the conversion code name is the same as the corresponding Character Set Name.
Example of the MySQL CONVERT function:
Select convert (_ latin1 'müler' USING utf8 );
Insert into utf8table (utf8column)
Select convert (latin1field USING utf8) FROM latin1table;
CONVERT (... USING...) is implemented in accordance with standard SQL specifications.
In traditional SQL mode, if you CONVERT a "0" date string to the date type, CONVERT) function returns NULL. A warning is also generated in MySQL5.1.
