Introduction to Word Animation Tutorial 97: Cross-references

Source: Internet
Author: User

Cross-references are references to another location in a document at one point in the document that you can use to jump, similar to hyperlinks, but cross-references are generally available only to the same document (or between the main document and its subdocuments). You can create cross-references in Word for headings, footer endnotes, bookmarks, captions, numbered paragraphs, and so on.

First, create a cross-reference (take the reference caption for example)

The steps are as follows:

1. Type the introductory text at the beginning where you want to insert the cross-reference, such as "For more information, see."

2. Perform "insert" → "reference" → "cross-reference" to open the Cross-Reference dialog box.

3. In the Reference type box, select the type of item you want to refer to.

4. In the Reference to box, select the information you want to insert in the document, such as title text.

5. In the reference to which caption box, click to select a caption to reference.

6. If you want to implement an item that jumps to a reference, select the Insert as Hyperlink check box.

7. If the "include ' see above/below ' check box is available, select this check box to display information that contains the relative position of the referenced item.

8. Click the Insert button.

Note: Before using cross-references, referenced items, such as captions, captions, or bookmarks, must already exist in the document.

Ii. Change of cross references

After you create a cross-reference, you may have to modify its reference object, sometimes due to changes in content, such as the original reference to Figure 1, to be changed to reference table 1, which has been previously added to this example, with the following steps:

1. Select the cross-reference in the document, and be careful not to select the introductory text you added.

2. Perform "insert" → "reference" → "cross-reference" to open the Cross-Reference dialog box.

3. Select the reference type as "table", and in the reference to which Caption box, select Table 1.

4. Click the Insert button.

Note: Cross-references are inserted as fields, and if the position of the referenced object changes, you can update it by using the Update field method. However, if you delete a reference object, the Update field appears with an "error, no reference source found!" The hint.
