Although telnet has been basically eliminated, it is always good to learn more. Now we will briefly introduce how to set up the telnet server in ubuntu10.04.
First, it is best to download an xinetd, which is a parent process and can be controlled based on all servers.
Sudo apt-get install xinetd
Sudo apt-get install telnetd
After downloading two things, you can directly create a file called telnet In the xinetd folder. Then add the following code to it.
# Default: off
# Description: Telnet service which is the interface of remote access.
# This is the tcp version. Iomited the UDP's.
Service telnet
{
Socket_type = stream
Protocol = tcp
Wait = no
User = root
Server =/usr/sbin/in. telnetd
Log_on_failure + = USERID
Disable = no # If the disable is followed by yes, the telnet server will be disabled.
}
Next, restart xinetd.
Seriver xinetd restart or
/Etc/init. d/xinetd restart
Finally, run the netstat-tulp command to check the interface listening status.
If tcp 0 0 *: telnet *: * LISTEN
Telnet is enabled.
Note: by default, ubuntu does not use root logon, so you should add sudo when performing the above operations!
