Make cover, title page and catalogue--word 2007 book Layout Complete Handbook (ix)

A book can not have no cover, also can not have the title page, the table of contents is essential important content. Once you have correctly applied the title style, body style, and so on in the book document, you can easily use Word2007 to create the catalog by automatically creating the directory.

1. Make cover and title page

In the page Options area of the Insert Ribbon, click the Cover Page button, and there are 15 cover page layouts in the Drop-down list, and you can choose one to automatically insert the cover before the first page, as shown in Figure 28. The cover pattern, title, author and other elements can be scaled, modified, deleted, add, and so on, until satisfied.

Set the insertion point to the header of the document, click the Blank Page button on the Insert Ribbon Page option area, click once to insert a blank page, and so on. Here you may want to insert a few more pages, for the back of the table to make a preparation. At this point, you can enter the first page after the cover of the contents of the title, such as the title, author, book date and so on. After the title page should be entered or preface, or content introduction, or Editor's note, or preface, and so on text. Of course you can't forget to set the formatting and layout of these text.

2. Automatically generate catalogs

① position the insertion point where you want to insert the book directory, usually behind the preface or the editor's note, in front of the body.

② Click the table of Contents option in the Directory options area of the reference Ribbon to open the Directory dialog box, as shown in Figure 29.

③ Select a table of contents format in the Format Drop-down list box, and a preview of this format appears in the Print Preview box. Select an option in the TAB leader Drop-down list to specify a leader format for the table of contents. Word 2007 Displays the default directory display level of 3, and if you need to change the setting, type the appropriate level number in the Show Level box. The show page number and page number right check boxes are generally selected.

When the ④ setting is complete, click OK to finish.

In this way, Word automatically creates a book catalog and inserts it into the document at the specified location, based on the settings above. If the contents of the book have changed since the catalog was compiled, you can also easily update the catalog. By right-clicking on the table of contents, performing the Update Field command from the pop-up shortcut menu, selecting the Update entire TOC or update page only radio button from the Update Fields dialog box, click OK to complete the update to the directory. Alternatively, you can select any part of the directory and press "F9" to update the catalog.
