Making awesome military posters in Photoshop

I have recently been admiring the cover of some military action novels, such as Andy Mcnabo or similar novels. So I decided to follow these styles to make such a military poster. This tutorial teaches you to use some photographic material, materials and brushes to make a military thriller scene.

This design I chose a warrior standing in the streets of Manhattan destroyed by the war, the title "Fight for your Freedom (Fight for Freedom)" provides the theme of this fictional book storyline, designed to create an atmosphere with cool tones and coarse materials.

First, we are looking for some relevant material. The following images are the materials I used in this tutorial, including a cool warrior image found at the Deviantart website, cloud images found on the sxc.hu Web site, and other images found in Thinkstockphotos.

The poster's main background is a Manhattan street. The following snow is perfect for the cool tones we have to make, and the fog and snowflakes on the map can be used to make smoky ruins. In addition, you need to use the Eraser tool to remove the traffic lights on the picture.

Copy the sky in the picture and paste it into the traffic light. Adjust the color level to match the hue, then use the soft side brush to erase the edges so that it blends with the original image as a whole.

Next, handle the following picture of the demolition site. First draw the outline of the ruins with the pen tool, do not need to be very precise, because we will also merge it with other pictures.

Set hue/Saturation to change the hue of the ruins to match the background tones. Setting the saturation to a negative value causes the colors of the above two graphs to be closer.

Use the pen tool to carefully outline the warrior, then right-click to create a selection and paste the selection into the main file.

This warrior's light effect does not conform to the overall tone, opens the Color Balance window (ctrl+b), respectively adjusts the shadow, the middle harmonic high light. Increasing the cyan and blue values can change the color of the picture.

Open the Color Level Adjustment window, adjust the highlight to highlight the image, and then use the Dodge tool to brighten the area around the warrior's face.

Add a layer mask to the warrior image and remove some of the boots as if he were standing in ruins and then painting some black areas on a new layer as a shadow. Sets the blending mode of the shadow layer to soft and multiply.

Paste a smoke picture, adjust the levels to darken the black, and set the blending mode to filter so that the black area becomes transparent.

In different locations, paste a few more smoke pictures. Smoke pictures can mask the soldiers ' feet and make them look more natural.

The tone of the leg area is lighter than the entire background, so add a level adjustment layer in the area to darken the image. Add a layer mask on the adjustment layer so that the level adjustment layer affects only the tones of the legs and feet.

Add a layer mask to the ruin layer and gently erase the hard edges with the soft side brush. So that the layer blends with the smoke layer and fades into the background.

Paste a picture of the cloud to saturate it and dim the color levels. Then, put it underneath the layers of debris and it looks like the smoke is drifting out of the rubble.

Adds a caption to the picture and adjusts the width of the caption to the width of the picture.

Add a layer mask to the title layer and use a different size brush to add a rough feeling to the font. In addition, I also used the ink brush.

Paste the following picture, adjust the color level to increase the contrast, the blending mode is set to linear depth, opacity is 50%.

Add a new layer, color #43586e, and set the layer to overlay, which can make the design more dramatic. Add a set of light blue spots and set the style to soft light so that the colors and tones of different areas change.

Randomly draw several black dots in the diagram to darken part of the area and set the layer blending mode to soft light, opacity

Adjust the color and hue of the picture, CTRL + A All selected, ctrl+shift+c merge replication. Paste the copy to the top of the layer group, select filters → other → high contrast retention, and adjust the slider until the details of the design are visible in the gray background.

Set this high contrast retention layer style to linear light and reduce the opacity. By comparing the left and right two graphs, it is obvious that the high contrast retention layer sharpens the design.

Now, the whole work is finished. Among them, the picture material provides the basic structure for the design, by adds the chromatic aberration and the tonal to give its plot.
