First, let's talk about the computer name, which is also the host name that we often say, as shown in figure
The XP1 in is the computer name, and today we are talking about the netbios name. In short, the netbios name is used to mark the computer in a system like win98, in some existing operating systems, it also exists, but by default it is the same as the computer name, but only the first 15 bits, because the netbios name is only 16 bits at most, the last one is used for a service or application. How can we check it?
The two red boxes are respectively the computer name and netbios name. The default value is the same.
Now let's modify it. Open the registry and find the following key value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlComputerName
There are two sub-items under this item: ActiveComputerName and ComputerName,
What is the difference between the two? ComputerName is actually the netbios of the local machine. It seems that the translation is a computer name. In fact, it should not be misunderstood. in the Registry, the key value of the entry named hostname is the real computer name, it is also called the host name. You can run the hostname command at the command prompt to view the Host Name of the local machine. What is ActiveComputerName? According to the official statement, "This is unstable and the computer name is provided during the session" does not seem to be easy to understand. In fact, you don't have to worry too much about it. This is also the netbios name. If you want to modify it, you can simply change the ComputerName to the desired netbios name, and then restart it. You don't have to worry about ActiveComputerName, you will find that ActiveComputerName is automatically synchronized with ComputerName. Try again.
I have changed ComputerName to xp1bios and restarted it.

Some may ask, what is the significance of changing the netbios name? Isn't it good to leave it alone? Yes. In general, it can be used without modification. However, in some special environments, netbios names are required for some tests and experiments.
